Former Yankees pitcher signs with Phillies.
Former New York Yankees pitcher Lou Trivino has signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The former Yankees reliever elected free agency on May 12, just days after inking a deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Now, after a couple of days as a free agent, Trivino has signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies, according to the transactions log.
Trivino began his pro career in 2013 after being selected in the 11th round by the Athletics. He pitched for Oakland from 2018 to 2022 before being traded at the deadline to the Yankees.
The Yankees acquired Trivino and Frankie Montas in exchange for JP Sears, Ken Waldichuk, Luis Medina, and Cooper Bowman. With the Yankees, Trivino went 1-2 with a 1.66 ERA in 25 games, as he was a key part of New York’s bullpen.
Trivino then signed a one-year, $4.1 million contract, avoiding arbitration, but missed the entire 2023 season due to Tommy John surgery, and only pitched in the minors in 2024.
After the Yankees declined the team’s club option for Trivino in 2025, he signed with the San Francisco Giants, but was DFA’d in May before signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and was once again DFA’d a couple of months later.
The right-hander was able to sign on with the Phillies for the rest of 2025, and re-signed on a minor-league deal this offseason. Yet, he triggered the opt-out clause in his contract, which led to him going to Baltimore, but he has now returned to the Phillies.
Trivino will pitch for Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
