The Jacksonville Jaguars made a roster move after the 2026 NFL Draft

This offseason has been much different than last year’s for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last offseason was all about raising the floor of the Jaguars roster, as they invested heavily and were aggressive during the 2025 NFL Draft.

Now, following a 13-win season, it’s all about staying the course and not getting overly aggressive to the degree that the team harms its own future. They entered free agency among the NFL teams with the least amount of available cap space, and due to the Travis Hunter trade, they did not hold a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. 

As a result, it has been a relatively quiet offseason for the Jaguars. However, that does not mean that the Jaguars have not added good players. In fact, they recently had to release a player, which means Jacksonville may be planning on adding another player to their roster now that a spot has been opened up.

Jacksonville Jaguars Part Ways With Lineman

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they had waived offensive lineman Sal Wormley. Wormley, who originally signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent to a three-year, $2.9 million contract, according to Spotrac, did not play a snap with the Jaguars during the 2025 season.

Regarding his rookie season with the team, FanSided’s Carlos Sanchez wrote:

“He spent the offseason with them and eventually landed in the practice squad. He never saw action as a rookie. After the regular season ended, the former Penn State Nittany Lion signed a future contract to stay in Duval.”

Sanchez added on the decision to release Wormley:
“The truth is that Sal Wormley was never going to make the team. And after the roster additions, he was going to be a long shot to make the practice squad. Jacksonville is stacked on the offensive line, with Emmanuel Pregnon and sophomores Jonah Monheim and Wyatt Milum tentatively competing for starting jobs.

Simply, Wormly didn’t have a chance. By releasing him, the Jaguars are giving him a chance to latch onto another team now.”

Perhaps the writing was on the wall for Wormley after the team invested a third-round pick in Oregon guard Emmanuel Pregnon. 

While some were surprised with the Jaguars’ unconventional 2026 Draft, Pregnon’s selection was widely praised. He was the 41st-ranked prospect by The Ringer’s Todd McShay, who wrote of Pregnon:

“Pregnon is a four-year college starter with NFL measurables and the tape to warrant an early-round selection. He’s a strong drive blocker who plays with a wide base, works his hands inside, and is not satisfied with simply walling off defenders once in position. Rather, he moves his feet and is strong enough to move defenders off the ball. He posted an outstanding broad jump (9 feet, 3 inches) for his position, which speaks to his lower-body explosiveness. 

He’s effective working up to the second level on combination blocks. He doesn’t release early and can drive opposing defensive linemen into linebackers. He possesses a powerful punch that he uses to knock defensive linemen inside and keep them off balance. He tracks linebackers well, too. He fits best in a man/gap scheme, but he takes sound angles and stays connected as a zone blocker. He moves well when he pulls and kicks out.”
