Incredibolt, Chip Honcho, & Taj Mahal lead the Preakness Stakes pack.

The middle jewel of horse racing‘s Triple Crown is one of the biggest sports events coming up. Incredibolt is one of 14 horses running in the 2026 Preakness Stakes. Of the 13 horses that Incredibolt is running against, Golden Tempo is not one of them (but Chip Honcho is).

Here are the full odds for all 14 horses participating in the Preakness Stakes, in addition to why Golden Tempo’s trainer and owners decided to have him skip the race.

Incredibolt, Chip Honcho & Taj Mahal Lead the Pack

Just days before the Friday races begin, there are three horses with 5-1 odds of winning the Preakness. Those three horses are Incredibolt, Chip Honcho, and Taj Mahal.

Taj Mahal has something the other two do not, three wins at the very Laurel Park grounds that the Preakness will take place in. That gives Taj Mahal a familiarity that the other two horses simple do not possess. Taj Mahal also possesses an incredible amount of speed and strength that make him a heavy favorite in this year’s Preakness.

Chip Honcho will have the help of Kentucky Derby-winning jockey, Jose Ortiz for the Preakness. Chip Honcho’s stalking style racing will pair well with Ortiz, which makes them obvious favorites to win the 2026 Preakness.

Finally, Incredibolt is another stalking horse who participated in the Kentucky Derby. He will be riden by Jamie Torres, who won the 2024 Preakness.

Full List of Horses Running the 2026 Preakness

The odds have changed since Golden Tempo dropped out of the race. At that point in time, there were 36 potential horses competing in the Preakness. Here is the full list of all 14 participants in the 2026 Preakness, from the best odds to the worst.

  1. Taj Mahal (5-1), Sheldon Russell
  2. Incredibolt (5-1), Jamie Torres
  3. Chip Honcho (5-1), Jose Ortiz
  4. Ocelli (6-1), Tyler Gaffalione
  5. Napoleon Solo (8-1), Paco Lopez
  6. Iron Honor (9-2), Flavien Prat
  7. The Hell We Did (15-1), Luis Saez
  8. Great White (15-1), Alex Achard
  9. Pretty Boy Miah (15-1), Ricardo Santana Jr.
  10. Talkin (20-1), Irad Ortiz Jr.
  11. Crupper (30-1), Junior Alvarado
  12. Robusta (30-1), Rafael Bejarano
  13. Bull By The Horns (30-1), Micah Husbands
  14. Corona De Oro (30-1), John Velazquez

Why is Golden Tempo Skipping the Preakness?

Will Golden Tempo run in the Preakness, is a question that many were asking promptly after his Derby victory. Sadly, those wishing for a Triple Crown win this year will need to wait at least another year.

In the past five years, there have been three Kentucky Derby-winning horses that have skipped the Preakness; 2022’s Rich Strike, 2025’s Sovereignty, and 2026’s Golden Tempo.

There are only two weeks of rest between the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. This is one major reason that the Triple Crown is so difficult to win.

Nearly one week ago, Golden Tempo’s trainer released a statement on Golden Tempo’s status for the Preakness stakes.

“After much thoughtful discussion as a team, we have decided that Golden Tempo will bypass the Preakness Stakes,” the statement began. “We are incredibly appreciative of the excitement and support surrounding the possibility of a Triple Crown run. The enthusiasm from racing fans, our owners, and our entire team has meant more to us than we can properly express.”

“Golden gave us the race of a lifetime in the Kentucky Derby, and we believe the best decision for him moving forward is to give him a little more time following such a tremendous effort,” the statement continues. “His health, happiness, and long-term future will always remain our top priority. We are looking forward to pointing him toward the Belmont Stakes and are excited for what lies ahead with this very special horse.”

“Thank you again to everyone who has supported and believed in this journey alongside us.”

For Golden Tempo’s team, the priority is placing the horses long-term health. They believe that could potentially be jeopardized if he were to run in the Preakness on a two-week turnaround.
