Max Fried’s Stern Message After Helping Yankees Continue Dominance vs Red Sox

The New York Yankees secured yet another victory over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday evening, beating their American League East rivals 4-1 at Fenway Park.

That was behind the brilliance of Max Fried, who tossed eight scoreless innings. Needless to say, he carved up Boston’s lineup, and evidently silenced the Fenway crowd.

Following the win, Fried spoke on the intensity of this matchup and how New York has approached this series against a team they have no love for.

“Playing the Red Sox is always a little different; there’s a little bit more of an intensity to it,” Fried said, via MLB.com. “Especially this early on, we want to play our brand of baseball to try to win as many games as we possibly can.”

New York Yankees’ Offense Gives Max Fried Just Enough Support

The Bronx Bombers didn’t explode offensively, but they gave Fried an early cushion when Amed Rosario smacked a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. He also had a sacrifice fly in the fourth. That’s all the left-hander needed, proceeding to allow just three hits across his eight frames. Fried also struck out nine.

After a pair of dominant outings to begin the 2026 campaign, Fried had run into a bit of trouble over his last few starts. In his most recent appearance before Wednesday’s gem, the Santa Monica native surrendered five earned runs to the Los Angeles Angels in just 5.1 innings, while also walking three batters.

Fried explained that he felt like his stuff was sharper in this start, and credited Austin Wells for calling a good game behind the dish as well.

“I definitely felt more like myself tonight,” Fried said. “I worked really well with [catcher] Austin [Wells]. He made some really great calls and some good stops. And then some really good defense as well, being able to pick me up and know that I can just be on the attack.”

Yankees Continue to Dominate Red Sox

Beating the Red Sox isn’t just a normal victory. It carries a lot more weight due to how much these two ball clubs hate each other. This matchup has undoubtedly been all New York in recent memory, winning five of the last six.

During that span, the Yankees have outscored Boston 28-13. They will go for the series sweep on Thursday evening, with Cam Schittler taking the hill at Fenway for the first time since high school. The righty grew up in the Boston area and was a Red Sox fan as a kid.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET.
