Will the 2026-2027 NBA season finally feature a change for Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro?

According to a list of the NBA’s top 10 realistic trade targets from Bleacher Report, Herro comes in on the list at No. 8. He joins his teammate, Andrew Wiggins, in the bottom three.

After a season full of questions regarding Herro’s future in Florida, don’t be surprised to see a summer full of trade speculation for the star guard.

“Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel recently noted the 26-year-old ‘thinks’ he has played his last game in Miami and might need a scenery change to ‘be his best self,’ Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley wrote.

“That could easily be the case. Extension talks went nowhere last offseason, and it’s hard to see things going smoother after he just had such an injury-impacted campaign and they seemingly picked up a suitable replacement in Norman Powell (who needs a new deal now).”

The Heat have been hunting for a star-caliber player before and after the Jimmy Butler saga. The fact that Herro’s name is frequently used as trade bait clearly shows that Miami’s front office doesn’t view him as the NBA star they once projected him to be.

That’s not to say that Herro is a zero. The veteran guard is a proven Sixth Man of the Year winner and earned All-Star honors just two seasons ago. Sometimes, the fit isn’t right, and relationships run their course.

The Miami Heat Need to Explore Herro’s Market

The Heat have been mediocre in recent seasons, and it’s time for a change. Miami seems unlikely to sell every valuable veteran in favor of draft assets, and start over with a young roster.

As long as Pat Riley is running the show in the front office, and Erik Spoelstra is leading the bench, the Heat want to compete at the highest level possible. Bam Adebayo is a core piece who is often referred to as untouchable rather than tradeable.

If the Heat are serious about getting a co-star, they’ll have to strongly consider exploring Herro’s market. He holds seven seasons of experience and has averaged at least 20.0 points per game over the past five seasons. The veteran guard has made 38.2% of his threes throughout his career, and dishes out 4.1 assists per game.
