Giancarlo Stanton has sat two straight games against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The New York Yankees opened their series in Texas with a win. New York beat the Texas Rangers 4-2 at Globe Life Field on Monday night, picking themselves up after Sunday’s loss in Houston ended an eight-game run. The win moved the Yankees to 19-10 on the season.

After the game, the Yankees got some clarity on Giancarlo Stanton.

The uncertainty around his right calf that had been building since Friday finally has an answer.

Boone Provides Stanton Update

An MRI confirmed a low-grade right calf strain, and the Yankees will place Stanton on the 10-day injured list. Manager Aaron Boone announced the update after Monday’s win, bringing an end to several days of uncertainty.

“Low grade. IL. Doesn’t look too serious but enough to not want to wait a couple more days,” Boone said.

The Yankees gave the calf a few days to settle before committing to the IL move, but the testing made the decision straightforward. Stanton felt the tightness while moving between bases during Friday’s sixth inning and was removed from the game shortly after. Given his history with lower-body soft-tissue injuries, the organization was always going to be cautious. The early intervention appears to have limited the damage.

What the Yankees Are Losing

Stanton was hitting .256 with a .724 OPS, three home runs, and 14 RBI across 24 games.

Aaron Judge addressed the loss directly after the game. The Yankees captain pointed to the run production Stanton provides and made clear the lineup will feel his absence. Replacing that production, even briefly, is the challenge ahead.

The Yankees have been one of the better offensive teams in the American League through April. Losing a middle-of-the-order power bat for any stretch creates an adjustment, even for a roster this deep.

Dominguez Gets His Opportunity

The roster spot that opened with Stanton’s IL placement has Jasson Dominguez’s name on it.

The Yankees called him up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier Monday. Dominguez drew the DH spot against Jack Leiter and finished 1-for-4 in his return.

Boone outlined the role he envisions. Designated hitter with outfield coverage as needed. Judge made clear the clubhouse is behind him. He pointed to Dominguez’s Triple-A production and acknowledged the extra edge that comes from missing the Opening Day roster. That kind of motivation tends to show up when opportunities finally arrive.

Final Word for the Yankees

A low-grade strain is as good as the Yankees could have hoped for after an IL move became inevitable. Boone’s tone after the game reflected that.

A 10-day minimum is still a 10-day minimum, and Stanton matters in that lineup. The lineup will adjust. Dominguez is back and motivated. The opportunity is real.

The Yankees are 19-10 and deep enough to absorb this.

Stanton will be back. The calendar keeps moving in the meantime.
