New York Yankees Predicted to Make Difficult Anthony Volp...

One of the biggest questions surrounding the New York Yankees this week is when the final decision on Anthony Volpe will be made.

Reports earlier this week indicated that a Volpe decision was imminent (before Thursday’s series opener with the Orioles), but no decision has been made as Anthony Volpe remains in the minors. Manager Aaron Boone was asked about the Volpe decision, and he totally side-stepped it with a “we’ll see” answer.

Now that Thursday is here, it begs the question and speculation of what’s next for Anthony Volpe?

Yankees Get Three Scenario Anthony Volpe Predictions

NJ.com writer Bob Klapisch recently proposed three logical options for what to do with Anthony Volpe, and then gave what he would do with the Yankees’ controversial infielder:

“That leaves three possibilities.”

♦ “First, the social media noise is just that — guesswork from the outside. For all we know, the Yankees are waiting until the last possible moment to gauge Volpe’s health and durability. Barring an unforeseen setback, he’ll be in the lineup against the Orioles on Friday.” ♦ The second scenario has Volpe returning to shortstop on a game-by-game, matchup-by-matchup basis depending on the opposing pitcher. He would play three or four games a week, splitting time with Caballero, who, frankly, has earned continued at-bats. ♦ The third scenario is the most radical option of all: Volpe won’t just be out of the lineup but will be handed a ticket to Triple-A.”

Klapisch then notes what he would do:

“I cast my vote for Door No. 3. I do so because if I were Boone or general manager Brian Cashman, I would be asking the only question that matters: Would replacing Caballero with Volpe make the Yankees any better? It’s hard to say yes.”

Jose Caballero has slotted in very well for Boone and the Yankees, and yes, given the fact that the Yankees are rolling right now, why fix what’s not broken? Klapisch makes very good points.

What Should the Yankees Do with Anthony Volpe?

GettyNEW YORK, NEW YORK – JUNE 19: Anthony Volpe #11 of the New York Yankees reacts after a double against the Baltimore Orioles during the ninth inning at Yankee Stadium on June 19, 2024 in the Bronx borough of New York City. (Photo by Luke Hales/Getty Images)

Anthony Volpe tore his labrum last season at an unknown point, so it feels fair to at least give him a runway of opportunity first to see how much of an impact that offseason shoulder surgery had on him. In 2025, Volpe hit .212 with 19 HR, 72 RBI, and 150 strikeouts.

However, if I were Brian Cashman, after giving Volpe, let’s say 100-150 at-bats (30-45 games), I’d then really further assess what to do with the 24-year-old, and that might include a blockbuster trade.

The reasoning is simple, and as Klapisch gets at, the Yankees clearly know how to win without him/don’t need him to win.

Yankees fans, what would you do with Volpe if you were in Brian Cashman’s shoes? And when will Aaron Boone announce the final verdict of the Volpe drame this week?
