New Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Isaiah World

Justin Herbert was the third-most-sacked quarterback in the 2025 NFL season, being taken down 54 times. To help address the situation ahead of the 2026 season, the Los Angeles Chargers signed multiple free agents and drafted four O-linemen in the recent draft.

LA wasn’t done adding offensive linemen, though, as the team signed two undrafted free agents to bolster the position group.

One senior NFL writer believes one of the UDFA’s has a strong chance at making the Bolts’ 53-man roster next season.

Chargers Urged to Keep Eye on Oregon UDFA

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has previously said that Justin Herbert’s biggest weakness is that his teammates aren’t on his level.

Adding more offensive linemen to get on the level of Pro Bowler O-linemen Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater would give the Chargers a better front line.

One of the two offensive linemen the Chargers signed after the 2026 NFL Draft is former Oregon Duck tackle Isaiah World. The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner dropped a list of undrafted free agents every team should keep an eye on, naming World for the Bolts.

“World (6-5, 323, with 34 1/2-inch arms) has the traits of a top-100 player, and he delivers a bunch of explosion out of his stance. He played four years at Nevada before one in the Big Ten,” Baumgardner wrote. “His technique is erratic, but if anyone can spin a project like World into gold, it’s Jim Harbaugh (and new offensive line coach Butch Barry).”

The left tackle was a second-team All-Big Ten member for his performance in the 2025 season. World received a 71.2 pass-block grade from Pro Football Focus, while allowing just one sack, one hit and 11 pressures for the Ducks.

PFF ranked World the 153rd-best prospect in this year’s draft class, with the tackle being taken in multiple mock drafts, but was unselected.

Under the guidance of Jim Harbaugh and new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, Isaiah World will have a chance to prove to be a member of the Chargers roster.

Competition for Starting Jobs

Entering his third season as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, Jim Harbaugh said at the 2026 NFL Annual Meeting that he felt the offensive line was in a good space after the initial weeks of free agency, but still wanted competition for his offensive front.

“Competitors welcome, you know how I feel about that. There’s more to come,” Harbaugh said, via the Chargers.

“We’re excited about the draft and free agency continues year-round, we’ve seen that from our personnel department and Joe Hortiz. Before May, after May, August, even during the season…”

This is a positive sign for Isaiah World. If the tackle has a strong training camp, he could see playing time in his rookie season. Though he would have to be accepting of a possible position change, as Pro Bowl tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt are returning to the squad.

But if either player is not 100% by Week 1 of the 2026 season or suffers another season-ending injury, Isaiah World could be a starter as a UDFA.
