On Sunday night, the Detroit Tigers will conclude their series with the Royals in Kansas City.

The Tigers will look to avoid getting swept after losing the first two games.

UPDATE: The Tigers won Sunday’s game 6-3.

Tigers Announce Justin Verlander News

Ahead of Sunday’s game, the Tigers announced an update on Justin Verlander.

The future Hall of Famer has been out of action since his only start of the season (on March 30).

Tigers PR wrote: “The Tigers today placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list with a left AC joint sprain. INF Gage Workman (#99) was selected from Triple-A Toledo. To make room for Workman on the 40-man roster, RHP Justin Verlander was transferred to the 60-day injured list.”

The Tigers today placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list with a left AC joint sprain. INF Gage Workman (#99) was selected from Triple-A Toledo.

To make room for Workman on the 40-man roster, RHP Justin Verlander was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Verlander had signed with the Tigers over the offseason.

Despite being 43, fans were extremely excited about the addition due to the fact he spent the first 12.5 seasons of his career with the franchise.

Even though Verlander is on the 60-day IL, he is still working toward a return in the near future.

Jason Beck of MLB.com wrote (on May 9): “Two-inning simulated game for Justin Verlander today at Kauffman Stadium. He threw about 38 pitches, facing 4 hitters twice each.”

Social Media Reacts To Latest Verlander Update

Here’s what people were saying on social media:

Chris McCosky: “Official. Carp on IL. Workman purchased. Justin Verlander to 60-day IL. Verlander timetable not really changed. He will be eligible to come off at the end of the month”

@FireUpPool2: “I won’t *hate* Harris for signing Verlander because we all wanted one last hurrah, but damn. What a shame it just didn’t work out”

@amort9924: “Not Justin man. We might’ve actually seen the end of him”

@DSizzle19: “For people freaking out about JV, nothing has really changed haha chill”

@JGallagher_22: “People see 60 day IL and think it’s damaging. It’s retroactive to when they placed him on the IL to begin with”

@kmyers1717: “Harris just makes all of the right moves. Last year was Cobb, this year Verlander”

Looking Ahead For Detroit

The Tigers are 18-22 in 40 games, which has them as the fourth-place team in the American League Central.

That said, they are just 2.0 games back of the Cleveland Guardians for first.

Following the Royals, the Tigers will visit the New York Mets on Tuesday at Citi Field.
