The San Francisco 49ers‘ 2026 schedule was officially released on Thursday. So, naturally, media members are going to analyze matchups and interesting nuggets from Week 1 all the way to Week 18. One intriguing nugget, which might not be a positive one, is that the team will have some adversity at home in late September and early October.
As insider David Lombardi analyzed on social media on Thursday, San Francisco will have to play some games at home in the heat. Not only will they have to play in the heat, but they will have to face a couple of teams that are prepared to play in the heat.

Here is what Lombardi had to write about the Niners having to play some scorching games at home early on in the year:
“The NFL did not go out of its way to avoid September/early October scorchers at Levi’s Stadium this year. The 49ers have 3 straight afternoon home games from Sept. 20-Oct. 4 – the first two of which come against heat-ready teams, Arizona and Miami.”

Within that window, San Francisco will end up having to face the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and Denver Broncos in Santa Clara. While the Dolphins and Cardinals have struggled to contend in recent years, they will be ready to face the Niners in the heat since they are coming from warmer climates. Then, they have to welcome in the Broncos, who were nearly in the Super Bowl last season.
Furthermore, the 49ers will have to face the Los Angeles Rams in Australia to start the season. Then, after the scorching stretch is over, the Niners will have to travel to face the Super Bowl champion Seahawks in Week 5. So, it appears as though the 49ers drew somewhat of the short straw in 2026.

The 49ers have proven over the years under Kyle Shanahan that they can overcome plenty of adversity. As one of the league’s most injured teams in 2025, the Shanahan-led 49ers found a way to navigate using multiple quarterbacks and losing some of their best players en route to going 12-5. If it weren’t for injuries to notable All-Pro players Fred Warner, George Kittle, and Nick Bosa, perhaps the 49ers would have gone to the Super Bowl.
Heading into this next season, there is likely to be some sort of adversity that meets the 49ers head-on. Luckily, they have gotten used to overcoming it in recent years. However, the Super Bowl window is starting to close with the current core continuing to get older. While Shanahan and GM John Lynch shouldn’t be even close to being on the hot seat, the Niners still haven’t won a Super Bowl in over three decades. The time has to be now for them to bring home a Lombardi.
