The Brooklyn Nets are expected to have interest in Tyler Herro and Peyton Watson this offseason. Brooklyn is rumored to make big moves due to having a lot of cap space and trade targets. The current goal is to get a top pick after the upcoming draft lottery decides their draft position, but they have no incentive to lose next season since they don’t own their own 2027 draft pick.

Herro was the bigger name linked to Brooklyn, via Out of Sight Sports:

“With Herro entering the final year of his extension ($33 million for the 2026-27 season), he represents a high upside “reclamation” project for a Nets team that needs a primary scoring option. Brooklyn’s massive chest of draft picks from the Durant and Irving trades and Terrance Mann’s contract allows them to outbid almost anyone if they decide Herro is their guy.”

The Nets badly need better talent after tanking this season for a high draft pick. Herro is one of the better players that Brooklyn would be able to acquire without giving up too many assets. Nets management would get to decide if Herro is a long-term part of the future after next season when he enters free agency.

Competition For Tyler Herro Will Exist

Despite Herro not having the greatest trade value after an inconsistent season, other names are also rumored to be on his radar. The Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets listed in the same article as Brooklyn to provide competition for a strong scoring guard like Herro.

All three teams need to improve their offseason next season to varying extents. Detroit and Houston both have expendable younger assets that could tempt the Miami Heat. Brooklyn could offer multiple trade picks and expiring contracts to give the Heat more flexibility.

The Heat may prioritize the Nets’ deal since that flexibility, and more draft picks could get them a bigger star. This offseason sees Miami hoping to add a superstar, and Brooklyn could help them gain more assets. Herro is no longer a viable option to help the Heat win, and a trade is strongly expected to come before next season.

Nets Also Want Payton Watson In Free Agency

The Denver Nuggets are going to have a difficult time keeping Watson due to their salary cap already paying big money to multiple stars. Watson is anticipated to test the free agent market and look for a bigger opportunity on a new team.

Reports indicate that the Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls will all look to steal Watson away from the Nuggets to become part of their long-term future. Watson delivered incredible stats during games without Nikola Jokic to show a higher upside to other teams interested in the young forward.

Brooklyn will have a great chance to sign Watson since the Lakers will have to use a lot of their cap space to sign upcoming free agents. The future of the Nets sees them able to take risks via overpaying free agents or using their draft picks acquired from other trades to get an All-Star.
