Blue Jays sign minor league pitcher.

The Toronto Blue Jays added some more pitching depth to the system.

The Blue Jays’ rotation has been plagued by injuries this season. Meanwhile, some other pitchers haven’t performed well, which led to Eric Lauer being DFA’d.

On Tuesday, the Dunedin Blue Jays announced Toronto had signed right-handed pitcher Jack Nedrow to a minor-league deal and assigned him to A-Ball.

“ROSTER MOVES: The Blue Jays have signed former USF Baseball RHP Jack Nedrow to a minor league contract and assigned him to the Dunedin roster!,” the Dunedin Blue Jays wrote on X.

Nedrow pitched at South Florida in college, and the school confirmed the signing.

“Former Bulls right-handed pitcher Jack Nedrow has signed with the Toronto Blue Jays organization and will join the club’s Single-A affiliate, the Dunedin Blue Jays. Dunedin travels to Tampa next week for a three-game series against the Tampa Tarpons beginning Tuesday, May 12,” the USF baseball website wrote in an article.

“In his season with the Bulls, Nedrow threw 72 innings and posted a 5-3 record. He made eight starts, recorded 47 strikeouts, compiled a 3.75 ERA, and earned one save. He also pitched against Wichita State in the American Athletic Conference tournament, helping South Florida secure its first win of the tournament by eliminating the Shockers.”

Since graduating from USF, Nedrow had been pitching for the Chicago Dogs of the American Association and the York Revolution of the Atlantic League. He was 3-4 with a 3.59 ERA in 12 starts before getting the call.

Nedrow made his Dunedin debut on Tuesday. He pitched 4 scoreless innings in relief, as he allowed 2 hits, walked 2, while striking out 6 to make a good first impression. The 23-year-old adds some more pitching depth to the Blue Jays system.

Blue Jays Dealing With Pitching Injuries

Toronto’s pitching depth has been tested this season, as the Blue Jays have been plagued by injuries.

The Blue Jays were without starting pitchers Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios. Yesavage has been able to return, but Bieber and Berrios are both still on the IL, and Max Scherzer has since joined them.

Toronto is awaiting more MRI results from Berrios, who had a stress fracture in his elbow, which was revealed after he tried to go to the WBC.

Along with the starters, key reliever Yimi Garcia is still on the IL and recently suffered a setback. But the hope is that the setup man can return to the bullpen in the very near future.

Toronto DFA’s Eric Lauer

Another pitching move the Blue Jays did was designating left-hander Eric Lauer for assignment.

Lauer was a key pitcher for the Blue Jays in 2025, but he struggled this season. The left-hander also vented his frustration to the media about having an opener before him. The Blue Jays weren’t pleased about it.

However, Blue Jays manager John Schneider admitted it was a difficult conversation to have with Lauer.

“(It was a) tough conversation because of what he did last year,” Schneider said of the decision to designate Lauer for assignment. “I know it was kind of back and forth with him this year, bullpen and starting. It just felt like we needed to go in a different direction.”

Schneider also hinted at Toronto possibly signing or trading for someone to help fill the void.

“There are ways to explore around the league, too,” Schneider said. “I know that Ross (Atkins) and everyone are crossing every bridge they can to figure that out.”
