Jayson Tatum scored 19 points in Game 2 against Philly

Despite the Game 2 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers, Jayson Tatum made history on Tuesday night at TD Garden.

More specifically, the Celtics star achieved three separate feats that add to his Hall of Fame-worthy resume.

Tatum, 28, nailed two three-pointers and moved into the Top 10 on the NBA’s all-time playoff three-pointers made leaderboard.

The All-NBA talent overtook two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith to move into the Top 10. Tatum is now just 20 triples shy of Danny Green for ninth all-time. With 25 more triples, he would tie Indiana Pacers great Reggie Miller for eighth all-time.

.Since entering the NBA, Tatum has led the league in playoff points and playoff wins.  Famed basketball trainer Drew Hanlen highlighted the feat on social media, stating that facts outweigh opinions regarding Tatum’s career.

Tatum has made the playoffs in every season of his career. Through nine seasons, Tatum and the Celtics have made five Eastern Conference Finals appearances.

They advanced to the Finals twice during that span, including a championship season in 2024.

Could Tatum Crack the Top 5 Before Turning 30?

While the No. 1 spot, Steph Curry and his 650 career playoff three-pointers, are likely out of reach for the foreseeable future, Tatum could realistically rise into the top five quickly.

Active stars Kevin Durant, James Harden and Steph Curry will be a bit harder to chase down, but, with a few more playoff runs, Tatum could climb into the top five within the next few seasons.

He is only 25 triples shy of tying Reggie Miller for eighth all-time. With 100 more, he will surpass Ray Allen, who currently ranks fifth on the all-time leaderboard.

While known for his savvy ball-handling and efficiency around the rim, Tatum has been just as lethal from beyond the arc.

He has already knocked down the second-most three-pointers in Celtics franchise history, trailing only Paul Pierce.

Jayson Tatum is a Proven Winner

As his trainer Hanlen pointed out, Tatum has produced at a high level in the playoffs, despite the narratives circulating around his name.

Even with stars Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Steph Curry and James Harden lurking around, it is Tatum who leads the league in playoff wins and playoff points since 2017.

During the 2024 playoffs, capped by the Celtics’ championship victory over the Dallas Mavericks, Tatum averaged 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists in 19 games in the 2024 playoffs.

Despite not being named Finals MVP, Tatum led the Celtics in points, rebounds and assists during that series.

Now, after returning from his Achilles injury just before the playoffs, Tatum has a chance to add to his impressive career totals.

Tatum and the Celtics travel to Philadelphia for Game 3 against the Sixers on Friday, April 24. Tip-off is set for 7 PM ET, and the game will be held at the Wells Fargo Center.
