Seahawks Get Two Notable Free Agent Names to Consider Signing

The Seattle Seahawks are coming off winning Super Bowl LX last season. However, despite the success of the previous campaign, they have some concerns about the team, including the depth at the edge position.

During the 2025 season, Seattle’s pass rush was led by Boye Mafe, Derick Hall, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Uchenna Nwosu. However, changes are coming to that group. Mafe left in free agency to join the Cincinnati Bengals. Meanwhile, the outlook for the other three beyond this season remains unclear.

Hall is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and Lawrence, who will be 34 at the start of the 2026 season, reportedly mulled retirement after Seattle’s Super Bowl run. Nwosu has also dealt with injuries throughout his career and will turn 30 before the end of 2026.

As a result, Seahawks Radio Network analyst and former NFL wide receiver Bryan Walters highlighted two potential additions for Seattle to consider: Kyle Van Noy and former Seahawk Jadeveon Clowney.

Both players played for head coach Mike Macdonald in 2023, when he was the Baltimore Ravens‘ defensive coordinator, which is why their names make sense.

“Both can still do it,” Walters said during an April 27 appearance on Seattle Sports’ “Brock and Salk.” “When you look at Clowney last year, 8.5 sacks with the Cowboys. I think that might be my number one, and then two would be Kyle Van Noy.

“But again, both played in Macdonald’s system. I think that’s the biggest thing. Get guys you’re familiar with, guys that you know, guys you can trust.”

When Clowney played in Macdonald’s defense in Baltimore, he tied his career high with 9.5 sacks and added nine tackles for loss across 17 games. In his lone season in that system, Van Noy finished with 9.0 sacks, a career best at the time, along with nine tackles for loss in 14 games.

Now, both players are a little older, and maybe they wouldn’t put up the same production, but Macdonald would probably put them in the best position to ensure he gets the most out of them.

“Not that you need some fancy system as an edge rusher, Walters added. “You kind of know what you’re going to do. Rush the quarterback, come off the edge. But Macdonald has some intricacies there that you have to be ready for as an edge.”

Seattle Could Count on Jadarian Price Right Out of the Gate

Meanwhile, on offense, the Seahawks will have a new face that they’ll be counting on to run the football. Seattle addressed a major concern on their team in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting former Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back Jadarian Price with the No. 32 pick on April 23.

Now that Price is in the fold, ESPN’s Brady Henderson shared that he sees the Seahawks giving Price an important role right out of the gate.

“I believe them when they say that they’re high on what they’ve got, or what they had there before Price and [George] Holani, Henderson said during an April 24 appearance on Seattle Sports. “They really feel like he can be a No. 2, and they’re obviously excited about Emanuel Wilson, the guy they signed in free agency.

“But they also signed him to a very inexpensive one-year contract. Even if you feel good about both of those guys as kind of the No. 2, you still need a No. 1. You need somebody to fill that co-No. 1 role, that role that Walker filled last season.

“This will be something of a jump for Price, but it’s not like he’s going from a backup to a bell cow. They’re not going to ask him to carry the ball 25-plus times a game, but I think they’re going to ask him to kind of slide into that Ken Walker III role and be that co-No. 1 guy.”
