Rory McIlroy is set to make an unexpected appearance off the golf course, with the Masters champion featuring in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. The film, scheduled for release on May 1, marks nearly two decades since the original debuted and brings together a mix of returning stars and new cameo appearances.

McIlroy, who recently defended his Masters title at Augusta National, will appear alongside his wife, Erica Stoll, in the film’s credits. The cameo places one of golf’s biggest names into a major Hollywood production at a time when his on-course success continues to dominate headlines.

Director David Frankel explained how McIlroy’s involvement came together, saying, “Well, the one I was most excited for will surprise people. It’s not even in the world of fashion. I mean, I loved having Rory McIlroy in the movie.”

The film reunites director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, returning to the world of Runway magazine and its editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci also reprise their roles from the 2006 original.

Despite the fashion-heavy cast, Frankel highlighted McIlroy as a standout addition. “You know, he was a great sport. He’s a very good actor,” Frankel said at the European premiere in London’s Leicester Square.

Frankel also detailed the origin of the cameo, linking it to McIlroy’s comments ahead of his win at The Players Championship.

“You know, it was triggered because last year, right before he won The Players Championship, the press asked him, ‘How did you relax the night before you won this tournament?’ And he said, ‘Well, I watched The Devil Wears Prada.’ I knew we had a fan,” Frankel said.

McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll, is also credited in the film, marking a joint appearance for the couple.

Reflecting on that experience at the time, McIlroy said, “I haven’t even watched the movie yet, because I don’t want to see myself trying to act. I am going to try and watch it this week maybe, but it was an amazing experience.”

The upcoming Devil Wears Prada sequel also explores new storylines within the fashion industry, including Miranda Priestly navigating changes in magazine publishing and a renewed rivalry with Emily Charlton, now a senior executive controlling key advertising revenue.
