Alabama Commit Colt Lumpris Sends Strong Message Ahead of Official Visit

Kalen DeBoer, Alabama in good position for 2027 TE Colt Lumpris.

Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide continue to build momentum in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and one of the Crimson Tide’s earliest commitments is making it clear that his bond with the program remains strong.

According to reporting from Bama247 recruiting reporter Brett Greenberg, Alabama 2027 tight end commit Colt Lumpris recently discussed his relationship with the Crimson Tide staff, his excitement about returning to Tuscaloosa later this month, and the impact of five-star quarterback commitment Elijah Haven joining Alabama’s recruiting class.

Lumpris, a 6-foot-6 prospect from Lawrenceville School, committed to Alabama on Dec. 9, 2025. He and fellow tight end commit Oakley Keegan currently give the Crimson Tide two tight end pledges in the 2027 class.

While Lumpris has not visited Tuscaloosa since last spring, Alabama has continued prioritizing the talented pass-catcher. DeBoer and outside linebackers coach Christian Robinson visited Lumpris during the Winter Contact Period earlier this year, and the Crimson Tide is set to host him for an official visit from May 29-31.

Colt Lumpris Building Strong Relationship With Richard Owens

One of the biggest developments for Lumpris recently has been building a relationship with new Alabama tight ends coach Richard Owens.

Lumpris told Bama247 the two connected quickly after Owens joined the staff in February.

“It was great,” Lumpris said of the meeting. “We clicked right away. I like how straight forward (Owens) is, which is great for a coach because sometimes it is good to hear what you don’t wanna hear in recruiting.”

The talented tight end also explained what Owens wants to see from him moving forward.

“He likes that I’m dominant in the pass game, but wants to work on the run game with me,” Lumpris explained. “They reaffirm that I am a big priority every time I talk to them.”

That message appears to have resonated with the Alabama commit.

Earlier this year, Lumpris also praised Owens for emphasizing both pass-catching ability and physicality in the run game, which aligns with Alabama’s long-term vision for him.

Alabama QB Commit Elijah Haven Excites Crimson Tide TE

Another major storyline surrounding Alabama’s 2027 class has been the recent commitment of elite quarterback prospect Elijah Haven.

Lumpris sounded thrilled about the addition while speaking with Bama247.

“I’ve been at a camp with Elijah and he’s really really good,” Lumpris said. “I’m pumped we picked him up. He is a dawg. With Elijah committing, I will know that the program will have great quarterbacks.”

Lumpris and Haven have crossed paths at multiple camps and recruiting events, giving the future Alabama tight end confidence in the class’s direction.

The Crimson Tide already had another quarterback committed in four-star signal caller Trent Seaborn before Haven joined the fold in April.

Official Visits Still Planned Despite Alabama Commitment

Although Lumpris remains committed to Alabama, he is still planning to take additional official visits this summer.

According to Bama247, Lumpris is scheduled to visit Penn State from June 5-7, Texas A&M from June 12-14, and Michigan from June 19-21.

However, the New Jersey standout made it clear to Bama247 that his commitment to Alabama remains firm.

“My parents want me to visit other institutions to make sure ‘Bama is right,” Lumpris said. “I’m definitely still committed to Alabama.”

That statement should provide reassurance to Alabama fans, especially with recruiting battles becoming increasingly fluid in the NIL era.

Why Alabama Is High on Colt Lumpris

247Sports national scouting analyst Hudson Standish believes Lumpris possesses significant upside because of his rare blend of size, athleticism, and versatility.

The scouting report describes Lumpris as a high-ceiling prospect who could potentially play either tight end or edge rusher at the Power Four level. His lacrosse background reportedly contributes to his movement skills and short-area quickness, while his massive frame and catch radius make him a dangerous red-zone target.

At 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, Lumpris already possesses the ideal size for the tight end position, but scouts believe his frame still has plenty of room for additional development.

Alabama’s coaching staff appears to view him as a long-term difference-maker in the passing game, while also believing he can evolve into a more complete tight end capable of contributing as a blocker.

With an important official visit looming later this month, Alabama will now look to continue strengthening its relationship with one of the top tight end prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle while fending off continued interest from several national programs.
