On Sunday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox will finish up their series with the Orioles in Baltimore.
Despite a 17-1 win on Saturday, the team made the decision to fire manager Alex Cora (and other members of the coaching staff).
Sunday will be their first game without Cora.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote (on Saturday): “The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Rámon Vazquez and game-planning coach Jason Varitek, sources tell ESPN. While the Red Sox won today, they are 10-17 and in last in the American League East. Massive change is coming in Boston.”

One of the more surprising moves was the team making the decision on franchise legend Jason Varitek.
Chris Cotillo of MassLive wrote on Saturday: “From Red Sox: Game Planning and Run Prevention Coach Jason Varitek has been reassigned to a new role within the organization. Details of his reassignment will be announced at a later date.”

Following the news, Catherine Varitek (Jason’s wife) made a post to X.

Varitek spent all 15 years of his Hall of Fame career playing for Boston.
The two-time World Series Champion batted .256 with 193 home runs, 757 RBI’s and 664 runs in 1,546 games.
He retired after the 2011 season.
