San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and his wife Claire Kittle made headlines with a viral story.
George Kittle is still rehabbing from a season-ending Achilles injury, but the San Francisco 49ers tight end apparently remains available for emergency household duty.
Kittle went viral on X on May 13 after sharing a funny early-morning story involving his wife, Claire Kittle, a bathroom spider and one piece of rehab equipment that suddenly had a different use. The post had already drawn 1.4 million views and more than 42,000 likes by publication time.
Kittle’s spider story landed the same morning San Francisco received another major piece of its 2026 schedule, with the team officially set to host the Minnesota Vikings in Mexico City in Week 11.
At 4 am this morning, as I laid in a deep slumber, I was called to action by my wife who had discovered a spider the size of a half dollar in the bathroom. Without hesitation I arose to combat the intruder. Claire handed me the slant board I’ve been using for rehab, and I
San Francisco 49ers Tight End George Kittle Shared a Funny Story About His Wife, Claire
Kittle wrote that he was awakened at 4 a.m. by Claire, who had spotted “a spider the size of a half dollar” in the bathroom. The veteran tight end said Claire handed him the slant board he has been using during rehab, and he used it to take care of the intruder.
“It took but 1 attempt,” Kittle wrote, adding that he received “hugs and kisses” for his bravery before going back to sleep.
It was a very Kittle post: goofy, exaggerated and still tied to football because of the rehab detail. It also gave fans another small glimpse of one of the NFL’s more visible couples.
George and Claire Kittle have been married since 2019. People previously reported that the couple began dating as freshmen at the University of Iowa, where George played football and Claire played basketball before knee injuries ended her playing career. The outlet also noted that Claire later pursued fitness training and bodybuilding, and that the couple spends the offseason in Nashville with their dog.
George Kittle Is Continuing to Rehab From His Season-Ending Achilles Injury
The slant board detail mattered because Kittle is working his way back from a torn Achilles suffered in the 49ers’ NFC Wild Card playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles in January. Kittle suffered the injury in San Francisco’s 23-19 win and spoke about changing his diet and routine during rehab as he eyes a return.
For the 49ers, Kittle’s recovery remains one of the biggest individual storylines of the offseason. He is not just a pass-catching tight end in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He is one of the league’s best blockers at the position, a tone-setter in the run game and one of the franchise’s most important locker-room voices.
That does not make Week 1 a certainty. Achilles recoveries can vary, and the 49ers will have every reason to be careful with one of their foundational veterans. But Kittle’s post was a reminder that his rehab is part of his daily life now, even when the assignment is less football comeback and more bathroom pest control.
49ers Mexico Game Is the Latest NFL Schedule News
Kittle’s viral post also arrived during a busy 49ers schedule week.
The Mexico game is part of a larger international push for San Francisco. The Associated Press reported that the 49ers will open the 2026 season in Melbourne, Australia, against the Los Angeles Rams before later facing Minnesota in Mexico City.
For Kittle, the schedule news gives his rehab an even more interesting backdrop. If he is healthy, the 49ers could have one of their most popular players available for two international showcases in the same season. If he needs more time, San Francisco’s tight end depth and offensive structure will be tested early.
Either way, Kittle managed to make himself part of the 49ers conversation on a schedule-news morning without saying a word about an opponent, kickoff time or recovery timeline.
He just needed Claire, a spider and a rehab board.
