Chelsea sack manager Liam Rosenior after a poor run in the Premier League left the club struggling late in the season. The decision was confirmed on Wednesday, just hours after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

That result marked a fifth straight Premier League loss without scoring, the club’s worst run in over a century. It is the first time since 1912 that Chelsea have failed to score in five consecutive league matches. Rosenior had only been in charge for four months after replacing Enzo Maresca in January.

Despite earlier backing, results dropped sharply. Chelsea now sit seventh in the Premier League, seven points behind the top five, with four matches left and an FA Cup semi-final still ahead.

Chelsea FC announced their decision following the recent Premier League loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, citing results and performances as the main reasons.

“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly; however, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season.”

Chelsea added: “Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.” The club also confirmed it will reflect before making a long-term appointment.

The Premier League run proved decisive. Five straight defeats without a goal left the team losing ground in the race for European qualification. The Brighton result confirmed the scale of the issue and increased pressure on the manager.

Chelsea’s Results Collapse in the Premier League and Europe

Rosenior addressed the situation after the Brighton defeat. He described the performance as “indefensible.” The comment reflected the level of concern around the team’s form in the Premier League during this run.

Supporters also showed frustration. Protests took place before the recent home defeat to Manchester United, and some fans voiced anger during the match. Criticism has also been directed at the ownership structure and the multi-club model involving Strasbourg.

Chelsea Makes Another Change Amid Premier League Pressure

This is the second managerial change of the campaign and the fifth permanent head coach to leave since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022.
