The NASCAR Truck Series season has created growing frustration among fans as full-time drivers continue to lose to part-time competitors and road-course specialists. The last full-time NASCAR Truck Series victories came back in February when Chandler Smith won at Daytona and Layne Riggs followed with a victory on the St. Petersburg street course.

Since then, part-time drivers have dominated several NASCAR Truck Series races, including Kyle Busch at EchoPark Speedway and Corey Heim at Darlington.

Motorsports writer Austin Konenski highlighted the streak when he posted, “A full-time NASCAR Truck Series driver hasn’t won since February.”

As the NASCAR Truck Series heads to Watkins Glen International, many fans continue debating whether the issue comes from the strength of specialists or the struggles of the regular Truck Series drivers competing for the championship.

NASCAR Truck Series Full-Time Drivers Continue to Fall Short

Many NASCAR fans have compared the current NASCAR Truck Series season to the old Truckwacking era, when Cup Series drivers regularly entered Truck races and dominated the field. Fan reactions to the current trend have become increasingly vocal online.

One fan, Tonka, wrote, “We didn’t have this issue when Corey Heim was in trucks; it’s a skill issue, not a NASCAR issue.” Another fan, Cuda, added, “Welcome to what happens when Corey Heim isn’t here to make the full timers look vaguely competent lol.”

Other fans defended the level of competition in the NASCAR Truck Series. “Reddick posted, I genuinely don’t mind this tbh. It’s not necessarily like any cup driver has really dominated either.” Sam also defended the challenges faced by regular drivers, writing, “Gotta beat the best to become the best.”

Some fans pointed toward scheduling gaps in the Truck Series season. “Scott wrote, In fairness, they’ve only raced like what, 3 times since Feb? This was their first week back on track in like a month. Ridiculous.”

Watkins Glen NASCAR Race Adds More Pressure to Truck Series Drivers

The upcoming NASCAR Truck Series race at Watkins Glen creates another difficult challenge for the full-time field and could affect the NASCAR playoff battle later in the season. Connor Zilisch enters the race in the No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet with strong momentum, while Shane van Gisbergen will drive the No. 4 Niece Motorsports truck as one of the top road course racers in the field.

Austin Konenski also pointed toward the possible continuation of the streak when he posted, “Watkins Glen will be May 8 with Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen.”
