The Green Bay Packers have yet to bring in an outside addition at the running back position. It’s an area that many fans are still concerned about.

Earlier this offseason, the team opted to let Emanuel Wilson walk in NFL free agency. He chose to sign with the defending champion Seattle Seahawks.

Brian Gutekunst and the Packers’ front office did re-sign Chris Brooks. They also still have MarShawn Lloyd on the roster. Neither of those two options instill confidence behind clear-cut starter Josh Jacobs

Last season, Jacobs dealt with lingering injury issues. He was forced to miss some time and also needed more help than he has had in years past with the workload. That gives Green Bay a reason to be concerned about the current makeup of the running back room.

Keeping that in mind, there are still a few intriguing free agents available who the Packers could consider bringing in.

Packers Linked to Four-Time Pro Bowl Running Back

If Green Bay is interested in a backup running back upgrade, one option could be signing four-time Pro Bowler Nick Chubb.

Chubb played the first seven years of his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns. He suffered a devastating knee injury a few years back that has seemingly slowed him down a bit. However, there was a period where he was one of the most feared backs in the league.

Nick Halden of FanSided has suggested Chubb as a potential option for the Packers.

“It appears the veteran is nearing the end of his career, as age and a lack of explosive ability are becoming a bit more obvious,” Halden wrote.

“Still, Chubb has consistently defied expectations throughout his career and was able to average 4.1 yards per carry in the 2025 season, despite playing in an incredibly predictable Houston Texans offense. For the Packers, it could be worth at least a tryout to see what level of health Chubb is in.”

Green Bay wouldn’t be signing Chubb to be a workhorse. He would simply need to be a quality backup option behind Jacobs. That is a role he could succeed in.

What Would Nick Chubb Bring to Green Bay?

Last season with the Texans, the 30-year-old running back played in 15 regular season games. He carried the football 122 times for 506 yards and three touchdowns, averaging a solid 4.1 yards per carry.

In addition to his rushing numbers, Chubb also caught 13 passes for 67 yards.

Throughout his entire 100-game NFL career, Chubb has totaled 7,349 rushing yards on 1,462 carries and has scored 54 touchdowns. He has also totaled 141 receptions for 1,109 yards and five scores.

It’s possible that the Packers truly do feel comfortable at the position. They may not have interest in signing a veteran option. But, if they are open to the idea, Chubb would be worth taking a flier on.
