Authorities in North Carolina are continuing to investigate a break-in and alleged financial activity connected to the estate of late NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, with newly released search warrants raising questions about whether the suspect may have been familiar with the home.

Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their two children died in a Dec. 18 plane crash near Statesville Regional Airport. In the weeks that followed, investigators say suspicious activity began to emerge involving the family’s property and financial accounts.

According to search warrants obtained by local outlets including WBTV and WCNC, an unknown suspect broke into the Biffle family’s Mooresville home on Jan. 7 and remained inside for an extended period of time.

Investigators allege the individual stole approximately $30,000 in cash, NASCAR memorabilia, and two handguns. The warrants state the suspect appeared to have an understanding of the home’s layout, including the locations of security cameras and specific areas such as closets and safes.

Authorities have not announced any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Documents suggest possible familiarity with the home

Law enforcement officials noted in the warrant filings that the suspect’s actions may indicate prior knowledge of the property. Surveillance footage referenced in the investigation reportedly shows a person moving through the home in a way that suggests awareness of security systems and interior layout.

Additionally, affidavits tied to the case reference a person seen at a Dec. 16 gathering held in honor of Biffle’s life. According to investigators, that individual may be connected to activity observed at the home weeks later. Officials have not publicly identified any suspects.

Financial activity also under investigation

The search warrants also outline concerns about potential fraudulent activity involving the Biffle family’s financial accounts. Investigators allege that account information may have been accessed or altered in the period shortly after the crash.

Documents reviewed by authorities indicate that at least one fraudulent check was cashed from an account tied to Biffle’s business interests. Officials are continuing to examine whether the financial activity and the break-in are connected.

In statements included in the warrant materials, investigators said they are exploring the possibility that multiple individuals across different states could be involved, though they emphasized that no conclusions have been reached.

Investigation remains active

Officials have described the case as ongoing, with additional search warrants executed in recent weeks at properties in Lincoln County and Mooresville. Multiple electronic devices and other materials were seized as part of those searches.

Authorities have not released the names of any persons of interest, and no charges have been filed.

Biffle, 55, was a longtime NASCAR competitor who won 19 races in the Cup Series and claimed championships in both the Truck Series and Xfinity Series during his career.

The investigation into the break-in and alleged financial activity remains active as officials continue to gather evidence.
