Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves was elbowed to the face by Victor Wembanyama.

The Minnesota Timberwolves outlasted the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of their second-round playoff series on Sunday. The Timberwolves tied the series 2-2 following an intense 114-109 win.

Victor Wembanyama was ejected in the second quarter after hitting Naz Reid with an errant elbow. Wembanyama was called for a flagrant foul penalty two and was disqualified from the game.

The ejection made things tighter for both teams, with Anthony Edwards scoring 16 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter. Reid was the Timberwolves’ second top scorer, finishing with 15 points off the bench.

Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. Wembanyama’s status is up in the air due to the possibility of a one-game suspension.

Naz Reid Brushes Off Wemby Elbow, Credits Mother For Response

Speaking to reporters after the game, Naz Reid issued a simple six-word response to getting elbowed to the face by Victor Wembanyama.

“Pain is weakness leaving the body,” Reid said.

The quote received smiles from Anthony Edwards and Ayo Dosunmu, who joined him at the podium for their postgame media availability.

Reid further elaborated his comments about pain in an interview with The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski. He explained how his mother taught him to get up despite feeling the pain of the world.

“My mom used to walk damn near an hour and 45 minutes to work,” Reid said. “That’s what my mom taught me. You get knocked down, get right back up.”

The LSU product added, “My mom and my grandmother have been through a lot. That’s where I get my pain tolerance from.”

Reid and his family indeed went through a lot over the past year, so an elbow to the face is nothing compared to what happened to her sister.

Toraya Reid, Naz’s older sister, was killed in a domestic violence incident back in September at an apartment complex in New Jersey.

According to Ocean County New Jersey’s Prosecutor’s Office, a man named Shaquille Green was indicted on February 18, 2026. Green was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Spurs Coach Reacts To Potential Wemby Suspension

There’s a discussion about the possibility of Victor Wembanyama getting suspended for Game 5 due to his elbow on Naz Reid.

However, it seems like Spurs coach Mitch Johnson is confident about Wemby not receiving a suspension from the league, calling the notion “ridiculous.” Johnson also took some shots at officials after Game 4.

“I’m glad he took matters into his own hands,” Johnson said, via CBS Sports. “Not in terms of hitting Naz Reid. I want to be very clear about that. I didn’t want him to elbow (Reid). But he’s going to have to protect himself if (the officials are not going to). And I think it’s disgusting.”

Sunday’s ejection was the first of Wemby’s career, and the league usually takes a player’s history into consideration.
