The IPL 2026 season has come to end with RCB vs GT, and the Orange Cap competition has been one of the finest side stories throughout the year. The fight for the Orange Cap was very much alive at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad tonight. Who walks away with the Orange Cap?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi finished the season with 776 runs in 16 matches at an average of 48.50. His Rajasthan Royals were knocked out in Qualifier 2, so that number was locked. The only way he was losing the cap tonight was if Shubman Gill or Sai Sudharsan went big in the final.

Gill walked in needing 55 runs to overtake Suryavanshi. He lasted 8 balls and got out for 10 off a Josh Hazlewood bouncer, caught at mid-off by Rajat Patidar. Sudharsan needed 67. He went for 12 off 12 balls, trying to ramp Bhuvneshwar Kumar and toe-ending a skier to the keeper.

Both out inside the first four overs. The two batters who had pushed Suryavanshi all season long could not have picked a worse night to fail. Gill’s season ends at 722 runs. Sudharsan’s at 710. Neither got close.

With both challengers back in the dugout early, Suryavanshi’s 776 runs stands as the highest tally of the season. The 15-year-old from Bihar wins the Orange Cap in just his second IPL season, finishing 54 runs ahead of Gill and 66 ahead of Sudharsan.

It has been a season like no other for the teenager. He scored 583 runs in the league stage alone, then backed it up with 97 in the Eliminator and 96 in Qualifier 2 against GT. He broke Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in an IPL season, finishing with 66 maximums. An Orange Cap on top of all that feels almost like a footnote.

Suryavanshi is 15. He has two more seasons before he can even be called for mandatory national duty. The IPL has a problem, and his name is Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
