Throughout the course of the 2026 NFL offseason, the New Orleans Saints have been linked to multiple rumors involving veteran running back Alvin Kamara.

Kamara is no longer the elite superstar running back that he once was. He’s still capable of making plays, but he isn’t a workhorse running back anymore.

Despite that fact, he would make sense as a potential trade target for quite a few contending teams around the league.

Earlier this offseason, the Saints made the move to sign former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne. They gave him a lucrative four-year, $52 million deal. Etienne will be the team’s lead back entering the 2026 season.

Could New Orleans look to trade Kamara? If so, which team could make sense?

Saints Linked to Chiefs Once Again as Alvin Kamara Destination

ESPN’s Mike Clay believes that the Kansas City Chiefs could be a potential option. He named a handful of teams as potential trade suitors for available running backs.

Outside of the Chiefs, Clay also suggested the Washington Commanders, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns.

Kamara was linked to Kansas City earlier this offseason as well. The Chiefs don’t necessarily “need” a running back after signing Kenneth Walker III in free agency, but he would provide a different dynamic.

Walker was signed by Kansas City after being the Super Bowl hero for the Seattle Seahawks last season. During the 2025 season, he racked up 1,027 yards and five touchdowns on 221 carries in 17 games, while also catching 31 passes for 282 yards.

Adding Kamara alongside of him would give the Chiefs a dangerous one-two punch. That would have to be of interest to the franchise.

What Can Alvin Kamara Bring to the Field at 30?

Last season with the Saints, Kamara played in 11 games. He carried the football 131 times for 471 yards and a score. Kamara also caught 33 passes for 186 yards.

Back in 2024, however, he put up much bigger numbers. Kamara ran for 950 yards and six touchdowns on 228 carries, while also catching 68 passes for 543 yards and two scores.

Kamara is still more than capable of being a playmaker. The cold hard truth is that he’s more of a No. 2 running back option at this stage of his career.

New Orleans could simply choose to hold onto Kamara for another year. It’s likely that he only plays for another season or two. Keeping him in town for the remainder of his career is a possibility.

However, it’s also possible the Saints could get a draft pick in exchange for Kamara. Giving him an opportunity to contend for a Super Bowl with the Chiefs would be the right thing to do if they decide to move him.

Expect to continue hearing rumors and speculation about Kamara’s future. Clay certainly thinks a trade could be on the table and that Kansas City is a team to watch.
