Julius Randle of the Minnesota Timberwolves guards Aaron Gordon of the Denver Nuggets in the fourth quarter during Game One of the First Round of the NBA Western Conference Playoffs at Ball Arena on April 18, 2026 in Denver, Colorado.

The Denver Nuggets are facing more uncertainty at a critical point in their first-round series — and it comes at the worst possible time.

Aaron Gordon, Peyton Watson Status Looms Before Game 4

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, forward Aaron Gordon is questionable for Game 4 after missing Game 3 with a calf injury.

“Aaron Gordon is questionable for the Nuggets in Game 4. Walked through at practice today. Iced his calf afterward,” Slater reported on X.

Slater added that Peyton Watson remains out with a hamstring injury, though he has progressed to individual on-court work.

The update leaves Denver with two key rotation pieces uncertain as it tries to respond to a lopsided Game 3 loss.

Nuggets Overwhelmed in Game 3 Blowout

The Minnesota Timberwolves seized control of the series with a dominant 113-96 victory on Thursday night, taking a 2-1 lead.

Minnesota imposed its physicality early, holding Denver to just 11 points in the first quarter — a postseason franchise record for fewest points allowed in an opening period.

Jaden McDaniels led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Ayo Dosunmu added 25 points and nine assists off the bench. The Timberwolves also dominated the paint, outscoring Denver 68-34 inside.

Nikola Jokic Struggles Against Timberwolves Defense

Three-time MVP Nikola Jokic finished with 27 points and 15 rebounds, but the numbers came on a difficult 7-for-26 shooting night.

Rudy Gobert anchored Minnesota’s defense once again, continuing his strong series against Jokic.

“He’s the greatest offensive player I’ve guarded in my whole career,” Gobert said. “Just trying to enjoy the challenge.”

Without Gordon’s presence, Denver lacked its usual frontcourt energy and defensive versatility — a gap that became increasingly evident as the game wore on.

Jamal Murray, Nuggets Offense Continue to Struggle

Jamal Murray added 16 points but shot just 5-for-17 from the field, as Denver’s offense failed to find rhythm.

The Nuggets — the league’s top three-point shooting team during the regular season — have gone cold in the series, hitting just 30% from deep (33-for-109).

“The shooting really put us behind the 8-ball,” coach David Adelman said. “Our physicality offensively has got to get better.”

Timberwolves Dictate Pace, Attack Weaknesses

Minnesota’s aggressive approach exposed Denver on both ends.

“They’re kind of pushing the pace, playing faster,” Jokic said. “Don’t let us set our defense, and then just driving the ball and trying to be aggressive.”

McDaniels, who previously labeled Denver’s defense as vulnerable, backed up his words with one of his most complete playoff performances, helping fuel a first-half surge that effectively decided the game.

Injury Uncertainty Adds Pressure for Game 4

The Nuggets’ challenges extend beyond execution.

Gordon’s late scratch before Game 3 forced Denver to juggle multiple game plans, and coach Adelman acknowledged the disruption.

“I do think out of fairness to the team, we do want to know who is going to play that next game,” Adelman said. “It just helps you because guys know the expectation.”

Watson’s absence has already thinned Denver’s rotation, and Gordon’s status now becomes even more critical heading into Game 4.

Nuggets Face Urgent Turnaround Scenario

With the Timberwolves holding a 2-1 series lead, Game 4 represents a pivotal moment.

Denver must solve its offensive struggles, regain physicality and potentially do so without key contributors.

The margin for error is shrinking — and the injury report is only adding to the pressure.
