After being found not guilty, the lawyer for Stefon Diggs shared that he expects the former New England Patriots wide receiver to quickly sign with a new team.

After the legal issues that former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs faced had been hanging over his head this offseason, he was found not guilty on Tuesday. Now, he can return his focus to the field and find a new team.

One person who expects Diggs to quickly find a new team is his lawyer. Shortly after the verdict was read, he spoke to several media members, predicting that it won’t be long until Diggs is signed to a new deal.

“He’s been vindicated,” the lawyer said. “And I believe that a team will reach out and sign him imminently. They’re going to be lucky to get him.”

It would not be a surprise if the legal issues that Diggs faced did slow down interest from teams around the NFL. In particular, if there was fear that he would be facing punishment under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.

One thing is clear, Diggs can still contribute to an NFL team. Last season, he helped get the Patriots to the Super Bowl. That came on the back of 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns in the regular season.

“Any team that signs him will be lucky to have him,” the lawyer added. “We are very pleased and happy that Stefon will continue on and play football in the National Football League.”

Stefon Diggs has been facing these legal issues since December, and they would hang over him for the end of the regular season and into the postseason. That came after his personal chef, a woman, accused him of strangling her over a dispute.

Notably, the chef, Jamila Adams, was a live-in chef for Diggs. She would testify that the two did have a sexual relationship.

Diggs would be charged with one count of felony strangulation and one count of misdemeanor assault and battery. The strangulation charge could have landed Diggs in prison for five years. However, after about 90 minutes of deliberation, he was found not guilty by the jury.

“Stefon was not going to settle this case,” Diggs’ lawyer said. “He was falsely accused and he wanted everyone to know that… I was surprised then. I was surprised yesterday. I’m still surprised. This case never should have been brought. It was a waste of resources.”

Diggs was notably emotional when the verdict was read. Of course, given the circumstances, that shouldn’t be a surprise.

“It’s an emotional thing to have false allegations levied at you,” the lawyer said. “This has impacted him both personally and professionally.”

The New England Patriots Wide Receiver Situation

While Diggs has been in the news throughout the offseason, so have the New England Patriots themselves. In particular, for how they’re building their wide receiver room after Diggs’ departure.

The Patriots released Diggs back in March, at the start of the new league year. Since then, New England signed Romeo Doubs to a contract. On top of that, the Patriots have consistently been involved in rumors for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, with most experts expecting he’ll be traded to New England in June.

That has also sparked rumors around Kayshon Boutte. In particular, to free up some space, he’ll be moved in his own trade. So, the future is a bit uncertain for the Patriots at wide receiver still.

That all amounts to a strong wide receiver room. Certainly, there will be those who would like to see Diggs join that group in New England as well.
