In the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia fans constantly rally for their sports teams. And cause quite the commotion when their teams win or lose.
Less than a mile a part, the Philadelphia Phillies and Flyers were set to play on the same day.
The Phillies originally had a game scheduled at 5:35 P.M. EST on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants, but it was suspended until Thursday afternoon at 12:35 P.M. EST. During their unexpected off day, Phillies superstars decided to show their love for the Flyers in Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
While the Phillies top players visited Xfinity Mobile Arena to cheer on the Flyers, the crowd did not exactly return the favor.
After the Philadelphia Phillies game against the San Francisco Giants was suspended, many Phillies’ fans made their way to Flyers’ Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Fans were reported spending $250 on tickets on their way in.
Fans were not the only people from Citizens Bank Park to see the Philadelphia Flyers. Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto, and Jesus Luzardo were shown on the jumbotron during the third period.
However, they were met with a poor reaction from the crowd.

The fans made their stance clear toward the last place Phillies, meeting them with boos as soon as they popped up on screen. The Phillies have lost 11 of their last 13 and have the second-worst record (10-19) in the MLB, behind the New York Mets (10-20).
Luckily, the Phillies’ players seemed to take it lightheartedly, as many of them were laughing at the crowd’s response.
This is not the first time Phillies’ players received boos from their fans. In 2023, shortstop Trea Turner received plenty of boos during his slump. Following the boos, Turner flipped his season around.
Currently, Turner’s season splits are .254/.323/.373, but had himself a day in Don Mattingly’s first game as interim manager. Turner went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs.
Aside from the less than ‘warm welcome’ from the Flyers’ fans, the city of brotherly love does have something to celebrate. The Flyers are making it to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 13 years.
Flyers are moving onto the second round for just the second time in 13 years. Flyers fans are going wild.
The Flyers won 1-0 in overtime against the Penguins with a goal by defenseman Cam York.

Originally, Cristopher Sanchez was set to square off against the Giants‘ Logan Webb on Wednesday, April 29, but due to a weather suspension, the pair will square off in Game 1 of the double-header.
Phillies beat writer Luke Arcaini reported, “Cristopher Sanchez will start Game 1 of tomorrow’s doubleheader. Game 2 is TBA.”

With Zack Wheeler scheduled to start on Friday against the Miami Marlins, and Aaron Nola on Saturday, it’s unknown who will take the hill in Game 2. Right-handed pitcher Andrew Painter is a possibility.
Painter, 23, last pitched on April 24 against the Atlanta Braves, where he gave up five runs in five innings. In four starts and one relief appearance this season, Painter has a 1-2 record with 21 strikeouts, and a 5.25 ERA.
Game 2 is slated to begin at the normal start time of 5:35 P.M. EST.
