Seattle Mariners Prospects Get Exciting Ranking From MLB Pipeline
Levi Coovert · 2026-05-14 · via Sports
Colt Emerson

Colt Emerson, the Mariners top prospect, was ranked No. 6 in Pipeline's latest update

Periodically throughout the year, MLB Pipeline updates its top 100 prospects chart, where MLB experts and prospect evaluators rank the 100 best minor league prospects in baseball.

In their latest re-rank, the Seattle Mariners got some good news regarding two of their top prospects. Infielder Colt Emerson comes in ranked at No. 6, with left-handed starter Kade Anderson being ranked just one spot behind him, at No. 7.

In fact, the Mariners are the only team with multiple prospects ranked among the top 15. The Brewers are closest, with No. 1 prospect Jesus Made and No. 19 prospect Luis Pena.

The Mariners have two more prospects in the top thirty. Pitcher Ryan Sloan is ranked at No. 22, and outfielder Lazaro Montez is ranked at No. 30. That makes Seattle the only organization with four prospects in the top thirty.

The Mariners No. 5 prospect Michael Arroyo, was ranked No. 48. Jonny Farmelo, the team’s No. 6 prospect, was ranked No. 74.

Meanwhile, only one former Mariner was ranked in the top-100. Jurrangelo Cijntje, now a member of the Cardinals‘ farm system, was ranked at No. 89.

Colt Emerson Is Knocking On the Door

Fresh off his No. 6 overall ranking, it sure feels like Emerson is knocking on the door to the big leagues.

The Mariners’ infield is currently full, with Cole Young at second base, J.P. Crawford at shortstop, and Brendan Donovan at third base. That said, how long can the team afford to keep their top prospect in Triple-A?

Emerson has been showing improvement with his bat in Tacoma, and is already a major league-ready defender.

In Tacoma, he’s slashing .252/.340/.458, for a .798 OPS. He’s hit six home runs, seven doubles, and a triple, while swiping nine bases. He’s scored 23 runs and driven in 21.

The biggest issue for Emerson has been strikeouts. He has 41 strikeouts in 34 games this year with Triple-A Tacoma. Once Emerson shows he can strike out less, he will probably earn his way into the big leagues. He’s shown he can do everything else already.

Kade Anderson’s Impressive Start

Anderson was the Mariners’ first-round draft selection in 2025, when the Mariners selected the LSU product with the third overall pick.

Because of the volume of innings he threw at LSU during the regular season and the college World Series, the Mariners opted to wait until 2026 for Anderson to make his professional debut in the minor leagues.

Now just over a month into his minor league career, Anderson looks beyond impressive.

Anderson has made six starts in Double-A Arkansas, where he currently owns a 0.60 ERA. He has allowed just two earned runs across 30 innings, and has 47 strikeouts, averaging more than 1.5 strikeouts per inning. Meanwhile, he’s walked only five batters, less than one per start.

With a minuscule 0.667 WHIP, Anderson has proven he can limit baserunners, control the strikezone, and dominate opposing batters. Obviously, it is at the Double-A level, but it is rare for a 21-year-old to dominate like this at a Double-A level.

When Could Emerson & Anderson Make Their Debuts

This is a tricky question.

Emerson needs to prove he is better than one of the Mariners nine starters. He could replace Crawford at shortstop, Young at second base, or Donovan at third. Or, the Mariners could move Donovan to a corner outfield spot, but that feels unlikely given the strong starts from both Randy Arozarena in left field and Luke Raley in right field.

Emerson’s best chance is probably to prove he’s better than the current DH platoon of Dominic Canzone and Rob Refsnyder. The Mariners could shift Donovan to left field and Arozarena to DH, freeing up third base for Emerson.

First, though, he needs to lower his strikeout rate in Triple-A.

Anderson, on the other hand, probably will not debut until 2027, barring a significant amount of injuries to the Seattle pitching staff. Seattle has six starters that they like, and at the moment, all six are healthy. If multiple starters go down at once, it’s possible the club makes the move to Anderson. More likely, it will be 2027 when Anderson makes his big league debut.
