In January, ESPN’s Seth Wickersham and Brady Henderson reported, citing sources, that the Seattle Seahawks will go up for sale after Super Bowl LX. It’s been a few months since this report emerged, and things have been relatively quiet.

As a result, during his May 6 mailbag article, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer shared the latest regarding the Seahawks’ sale amid all the quietness that’s going on in this process.

“Because it’s Seattle, a lot of the same big names are cycled through,” Breer wrote. “From the sounds of it, Clippers owner and ex-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer might be more likely than Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos, but I’m not sure either is a probable bidder.”

Apart from tech big names, there could be other potential buyers that have no ties to either Microsoft or Amazon. Moreover, Breer did mention another name who has recently tried to purchase an NFL team.

“I’ve heard a few other names as potential buyers, one who’s a limited partner in an NBA team. Steve Apostolopoulos, a Canadian billionaire, is one to consider—he did bid on the Commanders in 2023,” Breer added in his article.

“And I’m not sure he’s the only big-money bidder from north of the border. Yes, it’s been quiet. But that’s generally the way these things go. I wouldn’t take it as any sign of inactivity.”

Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook Aren’t Suitors to Buy Seahawks

Recently, two names from a Front Office Sports report on April 30 emerged: Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and soon-to-be former Apple CEO Tim Cook, who is leaving his position on Sept. 1, 2026. However, Dylan Byers of Puck News debunked this initial report from Front Office Sports.

“This isn’t true,” Byers wrote on X on April 30. “Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook are not considering bids for the Seattle Seahawks, per sources close to both men. Period, full stop.”

As a result, whoever buys the Seahawks may not have any ties to the tech industry, despite Paul G. Allen being their owner until his passing. Seattle is coming off a Super Bowl win, so there will be no shortage of interested buyers, whether they’re one person or a group of investors.

Richard Sherman Gets Blunt About Ownership Situation

In February, former Seahawks star Richard Sherman shared his thoughts on the ownership situation. Sherman noted that Allen was an amazing owner for Seattle and that his sister has done a fantastic job navigating the situation as she honors her brother’s wishes.

“The league is pretty adamant about that because when teams sell, it ups the value in the valuation of the other teams,” Sherman said in a video posted on Feb. 5 from “The Richard Sherman Podcast.“ “Paul Allen was a fantastic owner. I think Jody did her best and did a great job of just trying to continue his legacy and continue what he wanted. And I think he’d be very proud of the job she’s done, the job John Schneider and the staff have done, getting them back to a Super Bowl.

“If this is the end of her tenure as an owner of the Seattle Seahawks and they go off with a Super Bowl champion, I think that’s a beautiful ending to a fantastic story of the Allens and their ownership of the Seattle Seahawks. And the city and the team will know nothing but love and joy and appreciation for their time owning the team and look forward to what’s next in the future.”
