Trackhouse Racing and rookie driver Connor Zilisch avoided penalties after NASCAR carried out a detailed inspection of the No. 88 Chevrolet following the Watkins Glen weekend. Officials later completed the review at the sanctioning body’s Research & Development Center and found no violations with the car.

NNASCAR officials found no violations during the review, allowing the team to move forward without penalties during the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The clean result comes at an important time for both Zilisch and Trackhouse Racing. The rookie driver continues to adjust to full-time Cup competition after a strong 2025 Xfinity Series campaign. While his season has included mixed results, he has shown speed on several tracks, especially road courses.

Watkins Glen once again highlighted that strength. Zilisch fought through the field in the Xfinity Series race and secured a dramatic win with a final-corner pass. In the Cup race, however, late tire problems dropped him to a 20th-place finish after he battled near the front for much of the event.

NASCAR Inspection Clears Trackhouse Racing After Watkins Glen

NASCAR often sends specific cars to its Concord R&D Center for further inspection following race weekends. Officials examine several technical areas, including aerodynamics, suspension parts, engine components, and body measurements.

For Trackhouse Racing, passing inspection without issues protects the team from possible fines, suspensions, or points penalties. It also confirms the organization followed NASCAR’s technical rules during the Watkins Glen event.

The result also helps maintain momentum for Zilisch, who drives alongside teammate Shane van Gisbergen in Trackhouse’s Cup lineup. Both drivers continue to chase steady top-10 finishes as the regular season moves deeper into the summer schedule.

Connor Zilisch Continues Learning During Rookie NASCAR Season

Connor Zilisch entered the 2026 season with high expectations after his success in lower NASCAR series. His rookie Cup campaign has included strong qualifying speed and competitive road-course performances, but mistakes, strategy calls, and race incidents have hurt several finishes.

Watkins Glen showed both sides of his season. His Xfinity Series victory highlighted his road-course ability, while the Cup race ended with disappointment after tire issues ruined a possible top-five result.

The clean NASCAR inspection gives the team stability during an important stretch of the season. Trackhouse Racing remains in the middle of the owner standings while searching for more consistent finishes across all track types.

NASCAR Inspection Penalties Have Hurt Teams Before

Not all NASCAR inspections conclude successfully. Some teams have received significant penalties after violations were identified during thorough examinations at the R&D Center.

In 2023, Chase Briscoe and his team received heavy penalties after NASCAR discovered a counterfeit underwing duct following the Coca-Cola 600. NASCAR removed 120 driver and owner points, fined the crew chief, and suspended team members.

Other inspection issues appeared earlier in 2026 at Bristol. Multiple teams failed pre-race inspections several times, lost pit selection, and received fines and suspensions. Some cars later passed additional R&D reviews, including entries from Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick.

Those cases continue to show how strict NASCAR remains with technical enforcement. Even minor rule violations can cause major setbacks in a playoff battle.

For now, Trackhouse Racing and Connor Zilisch avoided that situation. The team leaves Watkins Glen with a clean inspection result and hopes momentum can help deliver stronger finishes in the second half of the NASCAR season.
