The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series opened its Texas weekend with problems in inspection, and several teams paid the price before turning a lap. At Texas Motor Speedway, 18 of the 35 trucks failed their first pre-race inspection. Every team later passed on a second attempt, but penalties were already applied.

Those penalties will affect practice time ahead of the SpeedyCash.com 250. Inspection issues forced teams to adjust quickly, and some drivers will now enter the race with limited data. With a competitive field and a demanding track, the early setbacks could shape how teams approach qualifying and race strategy.

NASCAR Drivers Hit With Penalties Before Texas Motor Speedway

Inspection results showed that only 17 trucks passed on the first attempt, according to reporter Matt Weaver. The remaining 18 teams had to fix issues before getting approval to compete.

NASCAR applied penalties based on how many times teams failed. Four trucks received 10-minute holds at the start of practice. Two teams were held for 20 minutes. Two others lost all practice time.

The most affected drivers are Josh Reaume in the No. 22 truck and Frankie Muniz in the No. 33 truck. Both will miss the entire practice session on Friday.

This creates a clear disadvantage. Texas is a 1.5-mile track where teams rely on practice laps to adjust handling and gather data. Without that time, drivers must depend on qualifying runs and race-day changes.

Other teams also face limits. The No. 2 and No. 93 trucks will miss 20 minutes of practice. The No. 5, No. 15, No. 17, and No. 88 entries will sit out the first 10 minutes. NASCAR has not released full details of each violation, but issues ranged from body measurements to suspension and aerodynamic problems.

Texas Motor Speedway Race Impact as NASCAR Drivers Hit With Penalties

The penalties come at a key time on the weekend. Texas Motor Speedway is known for high speeds and long green-flag runs. Track position and setup are important, and practice helps teams prepare for that.

Even with penalties, some affected trucks still show speed. A projected qualifying chart, released after inspection, shows several penalized teams ranked in the top 20. This suggests that performance may still be strong despite the setbacks.

Still, the lack of track time matters. Drivers who miss practice will have less information on tire wear, balance, and long-run pace. Crew chiefs will have fewer chances to test changes before the race.

Teams that passed inspection on the first try now have an advantage. They can use the full practice session to fine-tune setups and study tire performance. Texas has one of the more abrasive surfaces on the schedule, which increases tire wear during long runs.

NASCAR Inspection Rules Tighten as Penalties Leave Drivers Struggling Before Texas Motor Speedway Race

The inspection process remains a key part of NASCAR’s rules. Every truck must meet strict standards for height, width, and aerodynamics before entering competition. Failing inspection leads to immediate penalties, even if the issue is fixed later.

For smaller teams, these failures can be harder to manage. Limited resources and tight schedules increase pressure during race weekends. Multiple inspection attempts also create extra work for crews.

Now, focus shifts to the SpeedyCash.com 250. With 35 trucks expected to start, the race will test teams that lost valuable preparation time.

Drivers like Frankie Muniz and Josh Reaume face a tough situation. Starting deeper in the field without practice laps increases the risk of mistakes and limits strategy options.

The race will take place under the lights, where conditions can change quickly. Teams must adapt fast, especially those already behind.

With penalties already shaping the weekend, the Texas race is set for a competitive and unpredictable night.
