The Dolphins signed a running back amid De'Von Achane uncertainty

Due to the state of the Miami Dolphins roster, the team undoubtedly got better during the 2026 NFL Draft. Miami entered with a large number of picks; however, it was practically impossible for the team to address every position of need during the draft. Instead, the Dolphins appeared to place an emphasis on building from the inside out and acquiring players at premium positions of value.

While some may have wanted the Dolphins to draft Ohio State’s top-rated safety Caleb Downs, Miami opted to go with size and reinforce their offensive line as they selected Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor with their first selection. Additionally, the Dolphins used a third-round selection on tight end Will Kacmarek, who was widely considered the best blocking tight-end in this year’s draft.

With the Dolphins also adding dual-threat quarterback Malik Willis in free agency, the team’s most optimistic outlook would likely focus on the Dolphins building through the trenches and creating a strong run game. One aspect that could derail that plan is the status of running back De’Von Achane, who did not originally participate in the team’s voluntary workouts as he hopes to land a contract extension. As a result, the Dolphins have added another running back, who could factor into the team’s plans if the Achane situation does not get resolved.

Miami Dolphins Sign Running Back

Following the 2026 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins signed Texas A&M running back Le’Veon Moss as an undrafted free agent.

Moss is the second free agent the Dolphins have added after the team has signed after the draft, as it appears the team is putting an emphasis on the position despite currently having a Pro Bowl talent on the roster.

Moss played four seasons at Texas A&M, where he totaled over 1,700 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. Despite going undrafted, Moss was projected by NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein as a fifth or sixth round talent. Regarding Moss, Zierlein wrote:

“Early-down runner with adequate size, good finishing strength and consecutive seasons of injury concerns. There won’t be anything flashy on tape, but Moss consistently adds yards after collision. He has adequate burst to race to the second level and keeps runs alive with solid contact balance, but he lacks the elusiveness and top-end speed associated with more dangerous backs. He can fit any run scheme and will step up to challenge blitzers in pass pro, but limited receiving talent caps his third-down value. Moss profiles as a blue-collar backup capable of shouldering a larger workload when needed.”

DolphinsTalk’s Julian Dieni broke down Miami’s undrafted free agent signings. On Moss, Dieni wrote:

“Le’Veon Moss is an intriguing signing. The Texas A&M running back has struggled with injuries his entire collegiate career, but is a powerful rusher when healthy. Someone with his injury history wouldn’t get a shot unless they had some real talent. He has a strong lower half with very good burst and vision. He may be this regime’s solution to short-yardage situations if they feel he has more short-area quickness than Ollie Gordon does.”
