Heat’s Andrew Wiggins Gives Uncertain Update on $30.16 Mi...

Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins is still deciding whether or not he will opt in to the $30.16 million player option for the 2026-27 season.

The Miami Heat have many uncertain scenarios that are yet to be played out this offseason. One of them is the $30.16 million player option for forward Andrew Wiggins.

Wiggins, 31, was acquired by the Miami Heat from the Golden State Warriors in the trade that, in return, sent Jimmy Butler III to the Warriors in 2025. At the time, Butler III was ready to move on from the Heat, and Wiggins would join the third team of his career.

The former NBA champion Wiggins is still deciding whether to opt in to the Heat’s player option for next season. However, he was unafraid to express his liking for the city of Miami and all that has come with it.

Andrew Wiggins: ‘It’s Kind of Like an Old-School Vibe Here That I Like.’

Andrew Wiggins was unable to give a set-in-stone answer on whether he will be returning to the Miami Heat next season, but he had nothing but good to say about his time with the franchise.

“Everyone has been great to me,” Wiggins said, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “From the organization, the fans, to the city. And just playing a winning style of basketball. Being on a team, an organization that really cares for the players, always wants the best for them. They’re very straightforward, and all about winning. It’s kind of like an old-school vibe here that I like.”

Wiggins’ comments show that he has no ill will towards the franchise. However, there are different scenarios that come with his $30.16 million decision for next season.

He’s one of three (Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro) Heat players that are in line to make over $20 million next season. If Wiggins signs the player option, he will be eligible to trade and the odds of landing a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo go down.

If the veteran forward declines, the Heat will have as much as $60 million in space below the luxury tax line for next season. This would provide the necessary financial space to bring in a player like Antetokounmpo or other upcoming free agents this offseason.

The 31-year-old is also eligible for a four-year extension that’s worth up to $177 million. Signing a deal like this would replace a lower annual salary or could be added to the $30.16 million player option with lower salaries in future seasons, Chiang explained.

Andrew Wiggins’ Value to the Miami Heat

Although Andrew Wiggins’ point-scoring numbers (15.4 points per game) were down from previous seasons, he remains a reliable defensive player who would bring value to any NBA team.

The former No. 1 overall pick hasn’t felt any signs of slowing down after his 12th season in the league.

“I just kind of refined everything that I was doing before, just getting my shot better. My free throws, I was working on that. I’ve gotten better this year. Just trying to be in the right spot and even stay getting better playing off-ball, too.”

Wiggins didn’t average as many points per game this season, but finished the 2025-26 campaign with 47.5/41.4/78.4 shooting splits. These were all career-highs for the Heat forward.

Regardless of whether Andrew Wiggins returns to the Miami Heat next season, he offers potential All-Star talent to any team he lands on.
