Why Cameron Young’s Caddie Is the Secret to His Meteoric ...

Cameron Young has become an elite putter thanks to his caddie.

Cameron Young just polished off his third win in his last 15 starts to cement himself as a top-five golfer in the world. This is the same player who missed the cut six times in his first 11 starts last season and needed to compete in a 36-hole Monday qualifier to punch his last-second ticket to the U.S. Open. Young’s rapid ascent to the top of the sport has completely altered his career arc, and he has his caddie to thank.

At this time last year, Young was lost on the golf course. The American had missed the cut five times in eight starts and had only one finish better than T54 in that span. One of his biggest issues at the time was his putting, as he was consistently losing strokes on the greens and failing to convert birdie opportunities.

That’s when Young called up Kyle Sterbinsky—his good friend and old teammate at Wake Forest—to ask for help. Sterbinsky accepted the challenge, and he’s helped Young go from a struggling pro to an elite player on the PGA Tour.

GettyCameron Young and Kyle Sterbinsky have become a dynamic duo on the PGA Tour.

When Young was struggling just to make cuts in 2025, he knew he needed a change. The 28-year-old was always an elite driver of the golf ball and a solid iron player, but he had to improve his putting if he wanted to accomplish his lofty goals on the PGA Tour. So, he called Sterbinsky, an exceptional player himself and one of the best green readers Young knows.

Young has described Sterbinksy as a “fantastic” reader of greens. Sterbinsky is so prolific in that regard that Young trusts him to read every putt and relay the exact line and pace.

“Caddies can help you with a lot of things, but I don’t know how many you’re going to find who are actually better at reading greens than any of the players,” Young said of Sterbinsky last August, per Golf Channel. “If he’s not better, he’s very, very good.”

Sterbinsky’s expertise as a green reader paid dividends for Young right away. The Demon Deacon duo teamed back up at the Truist Championship last May, and Young gained 5.72 strokes from putting to rank third in the field and finish in a tie for seventh that week. After hiring Sterbinsky, Young gained strokes on the greens in 12 of his last 14 starts in 2025. He also led the field by gaining a whopping 10.32 strokes from putting in his first PGA Tour win at the Wyndham Championship in August.

Young and Sterbinsky Are Taking Over the PGA Tour

2019-24: 73 tournaments, top-5 in strokes gained putting 2 times

2025-26: 34 tournaments, top-5 in strokes gained putting 6 times

2nd in field this week.

Young’s inconsistent putting held him back from winning early in his career. Now that Sterbinsky is giving him perfect reads during tournaments, Young has leveled up to an elite putter and a prolific winner.

In 2024, Young ranked 145th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained from putting. He ranked seventh in the same statistic in 2025 and currently ranks 37th this season. At the Cadillac Championship this past weekend, Young led the field in strokes gained from putting en route to his third win in 15 starts.

Young’s biggest weakness is now a bona fide strength thanks to Sterbinsky. The sky is the limit for this dangerous duo.
