PGA Tour announces rule change.

The PGA Tour has enforced a rule change for the final round of the Cadillac Championship due to the weather.

Ahead of the final round, there was expected to be some inclement weather, and initially, the PGA Tour moved up the start time for the final round to 7:30 a.m. EDT as golfers were put in threesomes in an attempt to speed up play amid expected storms.

However, just before the leaders were expected to tee off, the PGA Tour announced a weather delay due to a dangerous weather situation.

The hope is that the final round of the Cadillac Championship will be completed on Sunday. Cameron Young, the leader at -15, will tee off at 11:42 a.m. EDT alongside Scottie Scheffler and Si Woo Kim, who are both at -9.

There are several groups out on the course already, as the PGA Tour is using split tees, meaning groups are teeing off on both holes 1 and 10 for the final round to get it done before the weather.

PGA Tour Announces Rule Change

With the weather impacting the final round of the Cadillac Championship, the PGA Tour announced a rule change.

The PGA Tour took to social media Sunday morning to announce that preferred lies are in play.

“Preferred lies are in effect for the final round of the Cadillac Championship,” the PGA Tour Communications account wrote on X.

Preferred lies come into place when a course has been hit by bad weather, leaving the fairways wet and creating mud. The rule allows golfers to lift, clean, and place their ball within a specified distance without penalty, specifically in the fairway.

By being able to lift, clean, and place, the golfers should be able to have better control of the golf balls out of the fairway. Mud on golf balls will impact the spin, so the golfers won’t be penalized for hitting a good shot in the fairway and having mud all over the ball.

What Will Weather be For Cadillac Championship?

The PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship in Miami is set for rain and potential thunderstorms on Sunday.

Ahead of Sunday’s final round, the PGA Tour announced the weather forecast, which doesn’t look pleasant.

“Showers and thunderstorms will be likely this morning as a cold front moves through South Florida,” the PGA Tour’s weather forecast for Sunday, May 3, detailed. “Scattered showers will remain possibly through the early afternoon before showers and thunderstorms become more numerous this afternoon. Showers and storms will produce heavy rainfall at times with gusty winds possible.”

Young is currently leading the Cadillac Championship, with Scheffler trailing and looking to win another tournament.

“The tournament’s in his hands right now,” said Scheffler. “I can go out and have a really good round, and if he has another really good round he’s going to be a tough guy to catch. All I can do is go out and try and have a great round and see where that leaves me.”

Young won the PGA Championship earlier this year for his second career victory on the PGA Tour.
