Joey Logano looks on during qualifying for the NASCAR Cup Series AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway on April 18, 2026.

Joey Logano saw his NASCAR race end early after a pit road crash at Texas Motor Speedway during the Würth 400 on Sunday, May 3, 2026. The incident happened under caution around Lap 94 and involved Cole Custer. Both drivers entered pit road with strong runs, but contact during a busy stop cycle caused heavy damage.

Logano hit the rear of Custer’s car after Custer slowed to enter his pit stall. The crash forced both drivers out of the NASCAR race and changed the running order. It added to a race packed with cautions and close action at Texas Motor Speedway, where heavy pit-road traffic had a clear impact.

Joey Logano Explains Pit Road Crash in NASCAR Race at Texas Motor Speedway

Joey Logano explained what led to the pit-road crash during the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway. He said the field was packed tightly as cars came in for service under caution.

“We wrecked on pit road,” Logano said. “Everyone was taking two tires, and the field was still bunched up, so we hadn’t cleared everybody yet.”

Cole Custer slowed as he entered his pit box to avoid contact with another car leaving its stall. That sudden move created a chain reaction. Logano approached from behind with limited time to react. The tight space and low visibility made it hard to avoid contact.

“There was a near miss with the 24 right before that, but it didn’t really matter,” Logano said. “I would have finished in a safe spot either way.”

The crash caused major damage to both cars. Logano’s No. 22 Ford lost its left-front section, while Custer’s Chevrolet took heavy damage to the right-rear.

Cole Custer Caught in NASCAR Pit Road Incident at Texas Motor Speedway

Cole Custer was caught in the middle of the NASCAR pit road incident at Texas Motor Speedway. Driving for Haas Factory Team, he slowed as he tried to line up with his pit stall.

Cars moved closely together under caution, leaving little space for mistakes. When Custer slowed, Logano could not react in time. The contact ended both drivers’ chances in the NASCAR race.

Both teams moved the cars to the garage after the damage. Logano recorded a did-not-finish result by Lap 108. Custer also failed to finish. Christopher Bell dropped out of the race after an earlier issue.

The incident showed how quickly pit road situations can change during a NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway.

NASCAR Race at Texas Motor Speedway Marked by Cautions and Strategy

The NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway featured constant action and multiple cautions. The Logano-Custer crash was part of a larger stretch of pit-road problems that affected several drivers.

Chase Elliott won Stage 2 after using fresh tires in a late push. Erik Jones won Stage 1 earlier in the NASCAR race. The event included 12 cautions, which kept the field close and increased pressure on pit stops.

NASCAR officials reviewed the pit road crash but did not issue any penalties. Teams worked to repair the damage, but neither Logano nor Custer returned to the track.

The race continued with the order changed as teams adjusted to the conditions. The pit road crash stood out as one of the key moments in the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway.
