Corey Day Seals First NASCAR Win in Chaotic Finish

The race itself delivered everything people expect from Talladega. There were 38 lead changes, the highest at the track in over a decade. Drivers moved in tight packs, switching lanes and positions almost every lap.

Corey Day did not dominate the race. He led only when it mattered most. On the final lap, contact between Sam Mayer and Jeb Burton triggered a crash that froze the field. Day was out front when the caution came out, and that was enough.

“This sure as heck didn’t think it would be at a superspeedway. My 17 guys just built a rocket ship. We’ve been close a few times this year, had some good days, and just didn’t finish them off. This is super cool.”

The 20-year-old driver is in his first full-time season, and this win shows progress. He had already been close earlier in the year. This time, everything lined up.

Behind him, Sheldon Creed finished third and stayed realistic about the result. “Hard to be too mad at third here when so much happens and you could have easily ended up in one of those crashes,” he said.
