Caleb Douglas could make an instant impact for the Dolphins in 2026

The Miami Dolphins have reset their roster this offseason, and while the results could be tough to stomach in 2026, the hope is that the Dolphins will be able to turn themselves into a championship contender over the next few years. That starts with nailing the 2026 NFL Draft, which saw Miami make 13 selections.

Obviously, the Dolphins’ two first-round picks (offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor and cornerback Chris Johnson) will catch folks’ attention, but this team needs to hit on more than just their early selections. The good news is that Miami is believed to have put together a strong draft class, with one NFL analyst recently picking out wide receiver Caleb Douglas as a mid-round pick who could potentially contribute right out of the gate.

ESPN Analyst Sets Lofty Expectations for Caleb Douglas

After releasing Tyreek Hill and trading Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos, the Dolphins’ wide receiver depth chart was looking pretty barren entering the draft. That’s why the team selected Douglas and Chris Bell with third-round picks, before also adding Kevin Coleman Jr. in the fifth round.

At the time, the addition of Douglas was viewed as a pretty significant reach. Initially projected to be a Day 3 pick, Douglas ended up coming off the board with the No. 75 overall selection in a rather surprising move. Still, the speedy Douglas is fresh off an impressive season with the Texas Tech Red Raiders (54 REC, 846 YDS, 7 TD), which convinced Miami to take him significantly earlier than he was expected to get drafted.

Douglas is versatile enough to play at different spots for Miami, and with the wide receiver room appearing to be a full-scale competition at this point, he could earn starting snaps in Week 1. Put that all together, and Field Yates of ESPN believes that Douglas will make an “instant impact” for the Dolphins as a rookie.

“At 6-foot-3, 206 pounds, Douglas has the size profile of a perimeter wideout, but he also saw snaps as Texas Tech’s big slot last season,” Yates wrote. “His blazing speed (4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash) should also help him crack the lineup early.”

Considering how Douglas was taken before both Bell and Coleman in the draft, it seems like he has the best shot of earning a starting role right out of the gate. As for established NFL players, Malik Washington, Jalen Tolbert, and Tutu Atwell are leading the way at wide receiver, but none of those guys are going to be guaranteed anything in terms of snaps next season.

Pretty much every spot in the wide receiver room is up for grabs in Miami, and a strong showing during training camp could be all it takes to earn a big role in this team’s offense. Douglas is in a unique position to contribute right away for the Dolphins, and while his selection was viewed as a bit of a reach, there’s good reason to believe he could quickly silence his haters early on in 2026.
