The end appears to be near for Bryson DeChambeau and LIV Golf.

There have been a plethora of conflicting rumors about LIV Golf’s future with some speculation that the league could end as soon as before the Mexico City tournament. Here’s a rundown of where LIV Golf stands now amid rumors about a potential shutdown.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil emailed staffers to confirm that the league will go on as planned for the entire 2026 season. The news comes amid reports that the league is in danger of losing funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

“I want to be crystal clear: Our season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle,” O’Neil noted in the email, per ESPN’s Mark Schlabach. “While the media landscape is often filled with speculation, our reality is defined by the work we do on the grass. We are heading into the heart of our 2026 schedule with the full energy of an organization that is bigger, louder, and more influential than ever before.

“The life of a startup movement is often defined by these moments of pressure,” O’Neil wrote. “We signed up for this because we believe in disrupting the status quo. We have faced headwinds since the jump, and we’ve answered every time with resilience and grace. Now, we answer by doing what we do best: putting on the most compelling show in sports.”

LIV Golf Mexico City Tournament Will Be Played as Scheduled, Despite Rumors

It appears that the LIV Golf Mexico City event will go on as scheduled. The Mexico City tournament is set to tee off on Thursday, April 16, at 3:15 p.m. Eastern.

O’Neil’s statement indicates that LIV Golf will continue, at least through the upcoming schedule of nine events, including Mexico City. The final LIV Golf tournament of the season (and potentially ever) is in Michigan on August 27.

This news comes after The New York Times sent out an email alert to subscribers on April 15, announcing a planned shutdown of LIV Golf.

LIV Golf’s Future Is in Doubt With Funding in Danger of Being Pulled: Report

Even if LIV Golf continues this season as planned, it appears that the question is when, not if the league will cease operations. The Athletic’s Gabby Herzig, Brendan Quinn, Brody Miller and Adam Crafton reported that LIV is “desperately looks for a way to continue operations.”

“Those sources, speaking to The Athletic on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said that members of the leadership team were first told on Sunday, following the Masters Tournament, that they would soon lose their positions,” The Athletic detailed in an April 15, story titled, “LIV Golf’s future in question as Saudi Arabian backers consider pulling funding: Sources.”

“… Industry sources have told The Athletic that the Public Investment Fund, the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund that financed the upstart league, is preparing to pull its multibillion-dollar investment in LIV Golf. The Telegraph reported on Wednesday that executives were called to New York for a meeting.”

For now, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and other golf stars appear slated to continue playing on LIV. The league has already seen notable golfers like Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed bolt LIV in recent months.
