The Jets have signed wide receiver Malik McClain in free agency

Entering the 2026 NFL Draft, the New York Jets were one of the teams fans across the league were keeping tabs on. Armed with a pair of first-round picks, the Jets were expected to be busy, and they were. Heck, they even traded for another first-round pick, giving them three selections when all was said and done.

In the wake of the draft wrapping up, New York has remained busy, as it has scoured the undrafted free agent market for more players to bring to town. After a strong body of work during the draft, the Jets have scored another big win, as reports indicate the team has managed to bring one of the top undrafted free agents from this class to town.

Jets Sign Undrafted Free Agent Malik McClain

The #Jets are expected to sign former Arizona State wide receiver Malik McClain, a source tells @CBSSports.

The 6-foot-5 McClain, who played at Penn St. and Florida St. before Arizona St., had 31 catches at ASU last year, including nine catches and a TD in a bowl game vs. Duke.

In the first round, the Jets attacked the offensive side of the ball, as they selected Oregon Ducks tight end Kenyon Sadiq with the No. 16 pick and Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the No. 30 pick. With Geno Smith being brought back to town to be New York’s new quarterback, he will have some young targets to throw to in the passing game.

One of the more intriguing undrafted free agents this year was Arizona State Sun Devils wide receiver Malik McClain. While he spent much of the year playing second fiddle to Jordyn Tyson, the big-bodied McClain still put together a solid campaign, as he finished the year with 31 receptions for 441 yards and a touchdown.

While he wasn’t necessarily expected to get drafted, McClain’s 6’5 frame made him a prospect worth keeping tabs on once the event wrapped up. Even with Cooper already being added to the wide receiver room, the Jets wanted more help at this spot, which led to them signing McClain as an undrafted free agent.

“The Jets are expected to sign former Arizona State wide receiver Malik McClain, a source tells CBS Sports,” Matt Zenitz reported in a post on X. “The 6-foot-5 McClain, who played at Penn St. and Florida St. before Arizona St., had 31 catches at ASU last year, including nine catches and a TD in a bowl game vs. Duke.”

Malik McClain Worth Keeping Tabs on During Training Camp

With Cooper on board, New York has a solid wide receiver trio, as he will team up with the likes of Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell. The depth chart behind them, though, is pretty wide open, meaning that McClain could have a decent shot at securing a roster spot for himself if he’s able to put together a strong body of work during training camp and preseason play.

As a bigger receiver, McClain fits the sort of archetype that the Jets’ offense currently doesn’t feature. Having a guy who can create separation on jump balls and operate as a threat in the red zone is crucial, and while McClain has work to do in both of those departments, he has the physical profile needed to fill that role. Nothing will be guaranteed for him, but McClain is one of the more eye-catching undrafted free agent signings for New York right now.
