Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears

New Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will have a strong offense on paper entering his first season with the team.

Cam Ward is entering year 2 and will have development heading into 2026. The Titans added Wan’Dale Robinson on a $78 million deal and drafted Carnell Tate with the fourth-overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

While the Titans’ offense is set to have a big year in 2o26 compared to the previous season, one NFL writer believes one of the biggest contributors is already on the roster, naming him a ‘best-kept secret.’

The Tennessee Titans’ running back room had the third-fewest yards in the 2025 season, with 1,589 yards. Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the Titans could go with the second option, who could be a shining light in the offense.

Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski wrote that running back Tyjae Spears is Tennessee’s ‘best-kept secret‘ who could get more opportunities next season.

“The Tennessee Titans didn’t have the opportunity to draft Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love with this year’s fourth overall pick… Love may have been a talent upgrade as an elite prospect, but the Titans already have two capable ball-carriers on their roster,” Sobleski wrote. “Tony Pollard is coming off his fourth straight 1,000-yard campaign. However, he’s 29, and the workload should start tilting more toward Tyjae Spears.

Spears dealt with an ankle injury to open the 2025 campaign, which is a reason why his rushing production dropped. Though his usage in the passing game continued at a relatively high level…. Spears is not the most physical back, but he can be dynamic when it comes to making defenders miss.”

The running back has recorded 1,048 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns, while also being a threat in the pass game, hauling in 873 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on 127 receptions.

Spears will be 25 years old when the next season starts, being the youthful option in the Titans’ running room (who also has experience).

With a new offensive coordinator looking to organize the offense, Tyjae Spears could emerge as the lead back in the 2026 season and get a career season in rushing yards.

Brian Daboll Had Praise For Tyjae Spears

Brian Daboll didn’t have much to say about Tyjae Spears during his introductory press conference with the Tennessee Titans, but what he did say was positive for the running back.

“Spears and Pollard are two good running backs that [get] yards when they have the ball in their hands,” Daboll said.

As noted, Spears has run for 1,048 rushing yards in his NFL career so far. Daboll’s comments could signal that Spears will have a strong presence in the running game next season.

The duo could split the bulk of rushing attempts, while Spears could remain the team’s first-option running back in the backfield in the pass game.

If so, Tyjae Spears could be in line for a breakout season in the final year of his contract.
