Tristan Jarry didn't think the Ducks scored.

Edmonton Oilers goalie Tristan Jarry reacted to the Anaheim Ducks scoring a controversial OT goal, saying he didn’t think the puck went in.

The Ducks scored in overtime to beat the Oilers 4-3 on Sunday night and take a 3-1 series lead in their first-round, best-of-seven playoffs. For the game winner, Ducks center Ryan Poehling threw the puck towards the net, and it bounced off a skate, barely trickling behind Jarry and into the net. The referees got together and ruled it a good goal on the ice, and then video review confirmed that the puck completely crossed the line, although Oilers fans are not convinced it was conclusive.

Speaking to reporters following the game, Jarry was asked if he thought the puck crossed the line. While he admitted it was a tough call for the refs, Jarry said he thinks the puck didn’t go in.

“It’s hard. We were just looking at it in there, and you really can’t tell. I’m sure you could go either way with it. You could say it’s a goal, it’s no goal, there’s going to be opinions about it. Obviously, on the losing side of it, we didn’t think it went in, but it’s tough,” Jarry said.

Describing how the game-winning goal happened, Jarry said it was “just kinda a battle in the corner, and it just gets thrown to the middle, and it’s just unlucky, an unlucky bounce. It goes off a skate and just kinda bounces between my legs, and it just kept going and just died behind me.”

Tristan Jarry Plays Well for Edmonton Oilers in Loss

Although the Oilers lost the game, they got an encouraging start from Jarry, who has overall played very poorly for the team since being traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins during the season. The Oilers traded Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a second-round pick for Jarry, with the hopes that he would help the team solidify its goaltending, but he struggled for the Oilers during the regular season and lost his starting goalie job to Connor Ingram.

You have to give Jarry credit in Game 4, however, as he stopped 34 of 38 shots coming his way. The Oilers lost the game, but Jarry at least showed signs of why the Oilers paid a hefty price to acquire him in the first place. With Ingram having struggled during the playoffs, look for Jarry to get the start in a must-win Game 5 for the Oilers as they look to keep their season alive.

Edmonton Oilers in Big Trouble Against Anaheim Ducks

The Oilers are now down 3-1 in the series against the Ducks, with Game 5 taking place in Edmonton on Tuesday. Given that the Oilers went to the Stanley Cup finals the last two years, this is a shocking situation for the team to be in, given that they are perennial contenders. When you have Connor McDavid, the best hockey player in the world, on your team, you always have championship aspirations. But right now, the Oilers are fighting for their playoff lives, and they absolutely need to take Game 5 if they are going to have any shot of making their Stanley Cup dream come true.
