The Boston Celtics saw their season come to an end at the hands of the division rival Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

After leading the series 3-1, the Celtics let their foot off the gas pedal. Losing in that fashion was a crushing blow for a team that had overcome so much throughout the course of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Despite Jayson Tatum being out to begin the year, Boston remained one of the best teams in basketball. Jaylen Brown stepped into the No. 1 role for the Celtics perfectly. He did enough to prove that he’s capable of being that kind of player.

Brown finished the regular season averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and a steal per game in 71 appearances, while also shooting 47.7 percent from the floor and knocking down 34.7 percent of his three-point attempts.

Now, some concerning news has come out about Brown’s future in Boston.

Celtics Facing Potentially Dangerous Jaylen Brown Situation

According to former NBA superstar Tracy McGrady, Brown has become frustrated with the Celtics.

“I think his frustration lies deeply in the organization that we don’t have the details to… There’s just been a lot of stuff that I’ve been hearing, just going on with the Boston organization with JB.”

That obviously isn’t good news for Boston. Could Brown’s frustration lead to the Celtics having to part ways with the star wing?

NBA fans quickly took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the news.

@FullAccessHoops: “He wants his own team it’s clear. He got a taste, this was ‘the most fun’ he’s had in a year. Celtics are approaching the separation of their wings.”

@MattKlayman_15: “It’s clearly a thing with Tatum or being the #1 why does he keep saying it’s the best year of basketball he’s played when he lost in the first round.”

@NWLB_Efficiency: “Can anyone tell me why he’d be frustrated? Send him to Milwaukee already and he will find out what real frustration is.”

@righteousr3p: “It was over as soon as they let Tatum come back last minute. It looks at best like lack of trust in jb, at worst it looks like sabotage.”

@Devilgunman: “Anyone with brain can tell. He always wants this to be his team. He dragged this team to be the 2nd seed and suddenly Tatum came back and Tatum is the guy again. Jealousy runs deep.”

What’s Next for Jaylen Brown and the Celtics?

At the end of the day, McGrady might not be fully accurate with what he said. Brown may have some level of frustration, but is it truly enough for him to want to leave Boston?

That isn’t known at this point in time.

Should Brown decide that he does want to be a full-time No. 1 option, a trade request could be on the horizon. If the Celtics do receive that request, Brown’s value would give the team a chance to make a major blockbuster move.

Right now, the most likely scenario is that Brown will be back for the 2026-26 NBA season. If that changes during the offseason, Boston will have plenty of routes it could take.

Brown will be a name worth watching closely as the NBA offseason draws closer and gets underway. For now, there is some reason for the Celtics to be concerned.
