“In terms of the lawsuit, our singular purpose is to protect our trade secrets — the most important information that our race team (and any race team for that matter) possesses, particularly in this era of Next Gen cars,” the statement read.

JGR further said those trade secrets were “created through the hard work and innovation” of employees over a 35-year period.

JGR’s statement further alleges that:

“Those same trade secrets were admittedly stolen by a former employee in a manner meant to avoid detection.”

The statement went on to reference Spire Motorsports, saying:

“Within days of the acknowledged theft, Spire offered that former employee a job and subsequently hired him.”

JGR emphasized that the lawsuit is not personal, framing it instead as an effort to uphold fairness across the sport.

“We believe accountability matters… to protect the foundation this sport is built on, so that every team, every driver, and every fan can trust in the fairness of the competition.”

Spire Motorsports Responds

In comments reported by The Athletic, Spire Motorsports leadership responded to JGR’s claims and characterization of the situation, including a remark that the organization believes the lawsuit is intended to “hurt us.”
