The New York Jets have added some more protection in front of Geno Smith.

Gang Green announced on social media that they have signed veteran offensive lineman Landon Young. In a corresponding roster move, the team waived wide receiver Mac Dalena.

Young is listed at 6-foot-7 and weighs 321 pounds. He was one of 31 players who tried out for the team over the weekend during rookie minicamp.

“The Jets initially signed Dalena (5-11, 180) to a reserve/futures contract on Jan. 12. A Fresno State product, Dalena had a brief stint with the Seahawks’ practice squad in November. He was a first-team All-Mountain West selection in 2024, leading his team with 64 catches for 1,065 yards and 8 TDs,” Jets senior reporter Eric Allen wrote in a press release.

You Can Never Have Enough Offensive Linemen

Last season, the Jets started the same five guys on the offensive line for all 17 games. They were the only team in the NFL to accomplish that feat. The Jets hadn’t accomplished that as a team since 2012.

The likelihood of that repeating itself in 2026 seems slim. In other words, you can never have enough quality offensive linemen on a squad. You never know, the Jets could be relying upon some of them during the upcoming season.

Young, 28, will turn 29 before the start of the 2026 season. He originally entered the league as the No. 206 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Young spent the first five years of his career with the New Orleans Saints. During that time, he appeared in 56 games and made 12 starts.

Young has played all across the offensive line at the NFL level. Here are his career snaps by position via Pro Football Focus:

• Left tackle: 161 snaps
• Left guard: 112 snaps
• Center: n/a
• Right guard: 267 snaps
• Right tackle: 257 snaps

On top of that versatility on the offensive line, the Saints also used him as an extra offensive lineman in jumbo sets. He has an additional 83 snaps as a blocking tight end, or otherwise known as a sixth offensive lineman on the field.

These types of players are never sexy, nor do they appear in headlines on ESPN. However, this hog molly is willing to do the dirty work and has stepped up at whatever position he has been called upon historically.

Jets Officially Sign 12 Rookies

On Friday, May 8, the Jets confirmed that they have signed 12 undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL draft.

That group includes: three defensive players, seven offensive players, and two special teamers.

The one that clearly has the best shot at making the roster is former BYU placekicker Will Ferrin. He is listed at 6-foot-3 and weighs 175 pounds.

“Ferrin kicked for BYU for the last 3 seasons after beginning his career at Boise State where he punted for 2 years. During his time with the Cougars, he made 122-of-123 extra points 58-of-71 field-goal attempts. The last 2 seasons, Ferrin led the Big 12 in field goals made. And as a redshirt senior in 2025, he was selected to second-team All-Big 12, tied a school record with a 56-yard field goal and set the program record for consecutive made field goals with 25,” Jets contributors Jack Bell and John Pullano jointly wrote in a press release.
