Hello hello ![]()
New user here, and so far so good! I’ve been playing a couple of games (not more since my Linux drive only has 256 Gb… time to invest in a bigger nvme later).
Conan Exiles works ok, World of Warcraft worked fine too thanks to Faugus. Neat!
Until-- yesterday! I started the Battle.net app from Faugus, clicked on “Play” to start WoW, then… WoW opens, it’s a black screen with the Warcraft cursor visible… And it closes after a second.
I tried again after restarting, no effect. I tried with Proton GE instead of Proton CachyOS… Same.
I tried to install Lutris instead. Same. I tried to install via Steam. Same. I tried to start the game with Wine, via WoW.exe… the screen is white instead of black! But same.
I tried to use the -d3d11 parameter in battle.net, I had a flashing epilepsy warning… and it closed. And now it’s as always: black screen, and it auto-closes. I tried with -windowed and… same!
Other people seem to have had this issue, but so far none found a solution apparently (except “I switched to Lutris and it works” but it didn’t work for me :') ).
Currently I’m on KDE Plasma Cachy (Wayland). Drivers I got are the latest I could -Syu (595 I believe).
RTX 5070 + 7800X3D + 32 Gb of DDR5.
If someone has any idea, I’m a taker! Thanks ^^’

A little update: I started it “bruteforce style”…
Started the Terminal (Konsole), and went
Wine path/to/WoW.exe
… it worked! Begrudgingly, since the Konsole kept outputting a flurry of horrified error messages.

Once using -d3d11, it was just as horrified.

^ spammed ad nauseam
The performance is godawful at best, but-- the fact is… Faugus failed to make it work, Steam failed, Lutris failed, but somehow good ol’Wine on konsole worked-ish.
The question is: does that give us any indication as to WHY it fails on Faugus/Lutris/Steam… o.o’

Alright, fixed!
It was mere… user error.
TL;DR: I installed the vulkan-low-latency-layer package a few days ago.
Except I forgot to add those parameters to launch Battle.net from Steam:
LOW_LATENCY_LAYER_REFLEX=1 LOW_LATENCY_LAYER_SPOOF_NVIDIA=1 %command%
With those? All problems are gone. Simple user error.
Wine alone worked because it pretty much seems to have bypassed the whole Vulkan stack?
Leaving the fix here in case someone else has a “woops” moment!
