Coming after Returnal, Saros marks Housemarque's return to the roguelite genre with yet another gripping dark space adventure where protagonist Arjun Devaraj faces not only the bullet hell unleashed by the many threats on planet Carcosa, but his own past.

In this complete walkthrough and guide hub, you will find anything you need to learn to master the bullet ballet that defines the experience, and have fun while doing so.

Getting Started

A character in Saros on a detailed armor stands in a dark, industrial environment with mechanical structures, viewed from a third-person perspective with on-screen elements showing a health bar and map.
Getting started in Saros is much easier than doing the same in Returnal

Although generally easier than Returnal, Saros has its unique quirks you need to understand from the beginning of your exploration of Carcosa to improve some of the experience's friction.

Combat

A player in Saros in a sci-fi suit aims a weapon at a horned enemy in a rocky, alien landscape, with a glowing path and UI elements visible on screen.
Saros' combat system takes everything that made Returnal great and brings it up to eleven

Housemarque's signature bullet-hell gameplay is further refined in Saros, with new masterfully crafted mechanics that add depth to the experience without overcomplicating it.

Character Progression

A character in the game Saros is standing in front of a glowing purple portal, with an on-screen prompt to 'PICK UP' a 'POWER AUGMENT.'
Character progression allows you to turn Arjun into a force to be reckoned with

Arjun's prowess as a Soltari Enforcer increases as you explore Carcosa's biomes and take advantage of the game's character progression mechanics.

Difficulty

A Saros interface screen displaying a section labeled 'CARCOSAN MODIFIERS' with a dial set to '0' and the description for a feature called 'WEAPON SYMMETRY' under the 'PROTECTION' category, indicating a balance change of '-2'.
Saros has a unique approach to difficulty

Saros provides granular control of the game's difficulty via dedicated gameplay mechanics and a modifier system.

Review

A character in a futuristic suit is leaping across a chasm in a rocky, red-hued landscape with a dragon-like creature flying above in the game Lords of the Fallen.
Saros is a great roguelike to get for fans of third-person shooters

Is Saros worth the time of roguelike and intense third-person shooter fans? Check out our review to learn how Housemarque enhanced the Returnal formula to deliver a solid experience.

All guides based on a completed playthrough on base PlayStation 5. Screenshots captured from the same version.
