LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight: Should You Expand...
Francesco De · 2026-05-19 · via Wccftech

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is packed with cosmetics to unlock using your hard-earned Studs, ranging from new vehicles and character suits to props used to customize the Batcave.

During the course of the game, you will also have the opportunity to expand the Batcave itself by adding new facilities in exchange for Studs. As these facilities look like mere cosmetic changes, you might wonder if you should save your currency for Bat-Mite’s shop instead. However, expanding your base as soon as possible is highly recommended.

In the game 'LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight,' the player controls Batman inside the Batcave, with on-screen text reading 'WAYNETECH CACHES 3/10 BATCAVE' and 'JOKER CARDS Go to the junkyard.'

While the new facilities don't seem to amount to much, expanding the Batcave is actually tied to your character progression. Buying these expansions opens up new areas within the headquarters, and inside them, you will find hidden collectibles that you cannot access any other way, including Minikits and Waynetech Chips.

There are a total of 10 Waynetech Chips hidden throughout the Batcave, and as they are relatively easy to find, you can use them to fuel some of your gadget upgrades via the Workbench. As such, spending your Studs in Batcave expansions here directly improves your combat capabilities.

Additionally, there are only five total expansions to purchase, so it doesn't take too long to unlock all of them. You will also receive the "I own the place" Trophy/Achievement once you have fully expanded the Batcave.

How to Find Batcave Expansion Areas

In 'LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight' video game, Batman stands in the Batcave surrounded by vehicles with a mission objective reading 'Go to the junkyard.'

If you aren't sure where to spend your Studs to open these new Batcave facilities, use the following procedure:

  1. Press the Right Stick (R3) to activate your Detect ability.
  2. Search the environment for the wrench icon.
  3. Walk up to the icon and interact with the machine to spend your Studs and expand the Batcave
