After having reviewed several portable monitors from Uperfect, I got my hands on the UFree V, a new portable monitor which promises completely "wireless" operation. As soon as I read that, my interest sparked several folds since conventional portable monitors aren't "truly" portable, as you still have to power them using an outlet and connect them to a device.
Portable monitors are usually much lighter and thinner than regular desktop monitors, but UFree V brings both a lighter and thinner build, alongside wireless operation. After having tested the UFree V, I have been eager to explain the pros and cons of the UPerfect's newest offering. In this review, we will be taking a look at its build quality, specifications, connectivity, ease of usage, and compatibility, followed by our verdict on whether you should buy it or not.

Uperfect's packaging has always been top-notch. Doesn't matter whether it is a $200 entry-level display or a $500 premium model; the company uses thick protective foam insert and padding for its monitors. In this box, we found multiple accessories, which you usually won't see with most portable monitors.

The UFree V brings a small 15.6-inch IPS display, boasting 1080p resolution. This is quite standard on most 15.6-inch portable displays, but we do see 4K resolutions even on smaller panels, including 15-inch and 13-inch. Uperfect has 13-inch OLED options as well, and we have previously reviewed its 16-inch OLED portable monitor, which was one of the brightest in its category.
Nonetheless, the specifications and features seem on par with offerings from other vendors. This includes a 60 Hz refresh rate, a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 178-degree viewing angle, and up to 350 nits of brightness. Contrast is also adequate with a 1500:1 ratio, and we have 8-bit color depth to produce 16.7 million colors. The monitor features a color gamut of 100% sRGB, making it ideal for professionals, and the surface is matte, making it ideal for use outdoors or in well-lit environments.
Unfortunately, we don't have HDR support or AMD FreeSync that would have made it ideal for gaming as well. However, this isn't for the gaming community, and is mostly ideal for office work or general usage. With a response time of 30 ms, it's far below standard portable monitors that tend to feature response time in the 4-10 ms range, but again, this isn't meant for gaming, and most users won't have a problem with such a high response time in day-to-day activities.

The UFree V is a pretty compact portable monitor, featuring slim bezels, a lightweight and thin design that's easy to carry. It's similar to what you will find commonly on other 15-inch portable monitors. The monitor boasts a matte display, which makes it ideal for working in well-lit environments, and since it offers an IPS panel, you are getting good viewing angles too.
The monitor measures around 5.5 mm thick and weighs around 800 grams. So, it's a perfect companion for travel, which can be carried alongside a laptop or a tablet. Display quality is decent as well, but you shouldn't expect too much. It's closer to typical budget IPS portable monitors, but not suitable for color-critical tasks such as color grading and similar stuff.
The UFree V brings a dedicated kickstand that helps you set the display according to your needs, and the setup is quite sturdy. I didn't see any wobbling or things like that with the kickstand setup, but it's VESA compatible as well if you prefer a dedicated stand.
UFree V is perhaps one of the most widely compatible portable monitors available on the market, supporting entry-level, as well as mid-range and high-end devices. Whether you want to connect your Android phone, your laptop, or your desktop, you can easily do so in two different steps. You can either utilize the shipped USB Type-C or Mini HDMI cables to connect to your device or the wireless connectivity it offers out of the box.
Connectivity ports include two Type C ports and a mini HDMI connector, as I have mentioned before. And there is a 3.5mm audio jack as well, which allows connecting a headphone or speakers pretty conveniently. I think you will really need to connect an external audio device since the 2x 1W speakers on the monitor are good for nothing. This is a common problem across most portable monitors, including high-end options we have reviewed before.
The UFree V is the perfect portable monitor that can be used either wirelessly or through a wired connection. It doesn't make much sense to connect it through a wired mode when you can easily use the wireless connection. However, for some devices, wireless connectivity might not be a viable option, and in that case, feel free to use the USB Type-C and HDMI port to connect to your device.
Apart from the connectivity ports on one side, you will have multiple buttons for entering the OSD menu, controlling volume/brightness, and even add an audio device through the 3.5mm jack. Once you press the power button, the monitor turns on if its battery is charged. The first time I powered it via a power bank, and after some time, it was charged enough to work without an active external power source.
When the monitor turns on, it will show the HD Wireless Screen Mirroring option if you haven't connected it to a device via the wired mode. With screen mirroring, you can easily connect it to your Android, Windows, macOS, or iOS device, as shown on the screen. You need to enable your WiFi and follow the instructions. I connected my Android phone as shown, which was done in less than a minute.
You can then have your phone/device's display mirrored on the UFree V, and if you like the vertical layout, you can rotate your screen, and it will automatically adjust its aspect ratio. Now you can connect the bundled Bluetooth foldable keyboard to your phone or device, and you will be good to go. I wouldn't say using this Bluetooth keyboard was the best experience, but considering it has a trackpad and all the essential functions, there isn't much to complain about.
Basically, you can use UFree V for a fully wireless setup, thanks to the excellent compatibility, built-in battery, and the simple connection process.
Traditionally, portable monitors exist to eliminate any connectivity or workflow hassles, but unfortunately, many fail to deliver. Except for a lightweight and thin design, most portable monitors still operate using wired mode. Wired connectivity isn't bad, but it's not practical or convenient in every scenario. The UFree V enables a fully wireless setup that delivers a "true" portable experience. It's lightweight, thin, compact, has a good display panel, and is ready to be connected to any device anytime, anywhere with no cables needed.
The display quality may not be top-notch, and the Bluetooth keyboard might not give you the best typing experience, but with some adjustments, it's possible to work using this setup while you have your Android, Windows, or iOS device in your pocket. Uperfect has done an excellent job with this one, and I totally recommend buying the UFree V as a truly portable secondary display for travel, remote work, or quick productivity on the go.
